Kindergarten - Week 1

We did it!!  We finished week one!
And so far, it's been great.  :)

On Monday evening, Craig, Will and I went to Open House to meet the teacher, see the classroom and bring in our supplies.  We also saw a bunch of kids carrying similar looking boxes that I later found out were pre-ordered supplies.  It sounds like, come spring, we will have the option of pre-paying for the next year's school supplies and they will be provided to us all purchased exactly as desired and no shopping required!  Nice!  We'll definitely be taking advantage of that next year if the price is comparable.
Not a lot of pictures this night.  I was busy signing up for snack, e-mail communications and parent teacher conferences, etc. while Craig and Will were sorting our supplies and placing some of his items in his cubby.  Will was so excited to meet Mrs. Mullen with this huge grin on his face as she shook his hand.  We toured the classroom and said hello to some parents and classmates... and then it was off to karate class!
Here's Will in his cubby... literally.  His art box, spare clothes and paint shirt are above.
Bee-lining for the bookshelves.
Checking things out with Josiah and Luke.  Haha!  Josiah is nine months older than Will and in the same class and look how much taller he is!  Whereas Luke is about five months younger and will be a grade younger than Josiah and Will.  Josiah's cousin Marley is another good buddy of ours and she will be in Mrs. Mullen's class as well.
Will has come home talking about the Star Board a lot since starting school.  I know it's a very useful resource in the classrooms and he loves it.  This is also where Mrs. Mullen reads to the kids, I believe.
Two days later, it was time to come to school for real!
First day packed lunch:
Contents:  green salad with Western dressing (Will's request), cashews, zucchini cornbread cubes, nectarines, mini chocolate chips and M&M baking bits.
And here's our little kindergartner, all ready for school!

What a good sport, posing (and actually smiling!) for all my pictures.
My favorite.
With daddy and Bru.
My little buddy.
We stopped at Lisa's house to park the car and then walked two doors down to the bus stop.
The dudes.  Handsome, or what?
Jaxson (age 3.5 and going to preschool this year with Sophie, Mya and Stella), Jagger (nearly age 7 and starting first grade), and Will.
Our babies.

Love this one.  Watching for the bus.
The bus is here!!
The bus driver is ready and summoning them.

Checking in with the new driver as she learns her kids and route.
This was a short while later as the bus was pulling up at the school.  I had been chatting with some of the staff members outside and anxiously awaiting Will's bus.
Letting kindergartners off first to be escorted to their classrooms.
Will with Mrs. Murphy, the principal.  Love her!
We saw Griff in the hallway, on his way to 2nd grade!  Gosh is he ever cute.  :)
Walking to his classroom.
And posing with Mrs. Mullen, who's going to be guiding him through his first year of elementary school!  She encouraged him to say goodbye after this picture so I didn't go into the classroom this morning.  He hugged me and walked on in...
And then the world kept spinning and the day went on and my baby grew up.
I thought about him all day and left work early to meet the bus when he got home.  :)
First day... done!  (And a goofy face for Will as he crosses the street upon the bus drivers "okay".)
Such big boys.

Little did we know, the first couple days would involve a lot of focus on Chester raccoon from The Kissing Hand book... which we read the night before the first day.
Thursday was a rough day for Will back at the sitter's.  I'm not sure if it's just all the adjustment to a life/schedule change and processing the new things going on in his life?  But he was moody and bossy and full of mischief for Lisa on Thursday.  :(  Boo.  Hope that's temporary!

Friday - day TWO!  Packed lunch for this day:
Contents:  hard boiled egg (again, Will's request), cheese stars, zucchini cornbread cubes, red pepper, "zebra tomatoes" from the CSA and grape tomatoes from our garden, pitted cherries and some nuts (walnuts and pecans).
Some sibling pictures on the porch on day two:

The week has been a success.  We've had early or on time dinners with early bedtime each night.  Our 3-tray "action boxes" are proving to be awesome and super helpful.  (I'll report more later.)  Will has earned green behavior stars this week (think of a stop light - green is good) and it's been awesome to hear him retell his day.  He's already feeling out the routines of the classroom and meeting new friends.  :)
