It's been since March that I've done a "Will-isms" post! Partly out of laziness. Partly because he's maturing too much and his speech is more adult-like and less silly errors that came with a younger age. Now, so much of his funnies are because he sounds so grown up and it's amusing to hear those mature things coming out of a five-year-old.
Sophie on the other hand just wasn't the same in regards to bold, early, mature speech. She started talking early enough, but she spoke simply and not really advanced for her age. Most of the things we giggled about were her silly voices and cutest tones: high pitch with questions, dripping with sweetness, growly with frustration, etc. Those weren't exactly things we could put into comical posts for the persons not actually listening to her. We certainly laughed with her, but in a different way.
I think a lot of the basics and early funnies went into her monthly development posts. So I won't go back and post those. I'll just try to pick up around the same time the last Will-ism post left off. I apologize if I squeezed any of them into other posts and you've already heard them. But especially recently, she's gotten really funny!
And instead of separating the posts, I'll just jointly compile both kids' funnies and call them "Riedem-isms". Deal?
1) (Apr - Sophie) A popular slogan with Sophie these days: "I'm serious!" (This has continued to now and she says it any time you seem to doubt her... for any reason.)
2) (Apr - Sophie) Another popular preface to any sentence: "Actually..."
3) (Apr - Sophie) Driving on 75 northbound coming from Perrysburg Peds and Sophie's 3-yr well check, she asked "are we still on the big road, mommy?" I said "yes, we're still on the highway, baby. But we're going to get off pretty soon because we're gonna' make a couple of stops." Sophie asked "and then we're gonna' make a couple of go's?"
4) (Apr - Sophie) Sophie has had a fixation on her birthday being "up", as in somehow 'up in the air'. I think it had something to do with me frequently telling her that her birthday was "coming up". So even after her birthday passed and she wanted to extend the celebrating, she'd tell me her birthday was "still up". She even had Will believing this terminology and they were both asking if her birthday had "come down". I kept telling them that we might say something is "coming up", but that once it's passed, we just say it's "over". Will accepted this explanation. Sophie kept arguing "my birthday's still up".
5) (May - Sophie) Finally, Sophie understands that her birthday has passed, but still doesn't get the proper terminology. Tonight she tole me: "my birthday came down". I said "yes, your birthday is over now". She said "Yes! My birthday was down on the ground, then it came up and it was my birthday and then it went back down and now my birthday is over." :)
6) (May - Will) Will's been able to open the door to my Jeep, close it behind him and buckle himself into his car seat for awhile now. As we were leaving preschool to drive to the elementary school for a tour, Will says to me "I almost closed myself in the door! I was 'freakin' out'!" LOL And a little bit later, telling his slightly younger school mate (who was riding in our car in Sophie's seat) about how great this visit was going to be. "This is the awesomest school ever! And that is not a lie. Wait till you see it!"
7) (May - Sophie) Both kids love the song "Moves Like Jagger" lately. They love to sing and dance to it and Sophie likes to change out the word "Jagger" with mommy, daddy, Brutus, Will, the house, etc. :) Tonight at dinner, she was singing again and we tried to ask her to stop singing and eat. She said with frustrated insistence "I'm Jagger and I've got moves!!"
8) (May - Will) A couple frequent slogans out of Will's mouth lately: "In fact..." and "Technically..." (both used to preface many sentences). He uses them correctly for the most part but they're a little bit overused. He's also been saying "prefer" a lot, though not always in correct context. Like when he was trying to tell Craig that he prefers the same thing Craig does, he said "Daddy, I prefer with you."
9) (May - Sophie) Driving in the car, Sophie tells me "Daddy's got a little bit of hair on his belly. I don't have hair on my belly. I just have hair on my top." (Pats head when she says "top".) :)
10) (May - Sophie) Walking into the Andersons with Sophie on my hip in the parking lot, Sophie looks up at the sign above the door and moves her hands in an arching motion above her hear as she says: "It says: 'the meat store'." Haha!
11) (June - Will) The kids have been introduced to Alvin and the Chipmunks movies and are totally hooked. Craig and I were trying to explain the word "sequel" to Will and why it was funny that the 2nd movie was called the "Squeak-wel" (sp?). He didn't seem to get it at first but then we think he caught on because he told us that Babe 2 should have been called the "Oink-wel". Haha! Very clever!
12) (June - Will) On his birthday, while we were visiting the planetarium, Craig carried Will up several flights of stairs to reach the observatory. (Still not sure why Craig opted for the stairs.) When we were finished and ready to head back down, Will said to Craig: "Dad, you know how you like to protect me and keep me safe? Well, I want to keep you safe too... You should take the elevator this time."
13) (June - Will) After his birthday, Will has decided that he would like to use some of his birthday money ($25) to buy another Tranformer (Sentinel Prime) that he really wanted the most. We allowed him to do so, with a big lesson in using money that went along with that experience. We ordered it at a huge cost savings from E-bay on a Sunday night and by Monday evening, when it hadn't arrived yet, Will was in tears. We told him it would probably take several days because it was coming from Oregon state and we looked at a U.S. map with him to show how far it had to travel. On the way to karate class Monday night, Will said with a voice of sudden realization: "Oh! I know why it's taking so long!... Their trucks are too slow!" :) And then later: "I think it's probably in Wyoming now." And still later: "Maybe they could put it on a jet or a plane to make it go faster and they could drop it down to me with a hook... or they could just give it to me on a day wer're playing outside and they could drop it down and I'll catch it!" :) Haha! Such a test of patience!
14) (June - Sophie) Sophie was stripping down in the kitchen to go outside and skinny dip in the baby pool while I watered the garden. When she sat down to pull her underwear off her legs, her hiney landed on a Lego that one of the kids left on the floor and the corner of it scratched her and actually made her bleed just a little. She made a pained face and said "owwie!" but didn't cry. Before I realized what had happened, I asked "did you sit on it?" For some reason, she said "no". I asked "did you step on it?" Again, she said "no". I asked "well, what happened?" She said "my bootie stepped on it!" :(
15) (July - Will) "Mom, I think I have a goose bump." (It was a mosquito bite.)
16) (July - Sophie) Sophie ate a bunch of our babysitter's fresh picked garden vegetables that weren't really intended for her to eat. When I asked her about it, she shrugged her shoulders and said "silly me, I guess". :)
17) (July - Sophie) Received a trophy from the library that says something about Summer 2012 - Great Job Reading. But Sophie insisted it read (while sliding her finger over the words): "Sophie is win-ning". She paused between the word winning like it was two words. Haha - quite proud of herself I guess.
18) (July - Will) Craig was getting fed up with constantly transforming Will's "leader class" Transformers (the really hard ones). They are far too advanced for Will and I haven't a clue what to do with them. So Craig was passive aggressively saying to Will (loud enough for me to hear): "You know, you have TWO parents that you could ask to do this for you. You don't always have to ask me." And Will's response was: "Ya, but daddy, you're a construction worker... you build things and you can fix things. Mommy's just a dietitian... she makes us the healthy meals." Hahahahaha!!! I love it! Coincidentally, I was prepping dinner while Craig was watching TV so it was perfect timing... even if I am "just" a dietitian.
19) (July - Sophie) Whenever Sophie is referring to a day in the past, she always says "last morning..." Other common expressions from her lately: "That's my dooog!" (when she fist pounds daddy), "I suppose...", "Actually...", "Wait a second!"
20) (August - Sophie) Craig was laying down with Sophie at bedtime because she wanted someone to snuggle with her. He had his arm draped over her and she asked him: "daddy, are you protecting me?" He said "yes" and she replied "thank you for protecting me". Aww! So sweet!!
21) (August - Will) Will is becoming such a mini-me of his daddy, picking up so many expressions that Craig jokingly uses with him often. Several of them include:
"That's what I'm talking about!"
"That's my boy!" or "That's my dog!" (to Craig)
"That's what I like to hear!"
22) (August - Will) Following his doctor's appointment (dx: swimmer's ear), I decided to take Will shopping for school supplies. We parked and as we were walking into Target, Will said "School supplies... here we come!"
23) (August - Sophie) Taking a shower with Sophie (it's rare, but she did so well!), she watched me shaving my legs and said "can you scrape my legs too?" Haha! :)
24) (August - Sophie) Swimming naked at Nana's because we forgot her suit: "I'm kinny stipping!"
25) (August - Sophie) Sad that her first concert (The Fresh Beat Band) was over, she asked as we were walking out of the zoo to the parking lot: "Is the Fresh Beat Band going home? Where's their car?" :)
26) (September - Will) At Andersons, Will wants to get in the back of the cart while we wait our turn at the meat counter. He asks: "Can I jump in the cart?" I say: "You can't jump in, I can lift you in." Will replied: "It's just an expression, mom".
27) (September - Will) After hearing Sophie singing, Will says to us about her: "She rocks my socks. She's a big ball of awesome."
28) (October - Sophie) Randomly, at dinner: "Hey guys! Wanna' go camping?" Thus beginning her obsession with the building of "camp outs" all over the house with her pillows and blankets. :)
29) (October - Will) Will stayed home from school this morning with a barky cough. He turned out not to be too sick - the cough subsided and nothing else - so we decided he'll go into school for the afternoon. So after he finished dressing, he came out to tell me: "You know, I think I have a common cold." :) And for the whole day, Will was insanely sweet and complimentary to me. When we got out of the car at school and were starting to cross the parking lot, I started to reach my hand out to him out of habit. But there was really no one else in the lot and it occured to me that maybe Will would prefer to be big kid and not hold his mom's hand. So I stopped myself. But then he took my hand all on his own donig and said to me: "I love holding your hand." And as we walked into the breezeway, just before entering the office, he said: "Mom, I love you so much." :) Just writing this makes me tear up again. That boy sure holds my heart. And oh how I will ache to relive this day when he's too big and too cool to say it that simply anymore. :( I love him!!
30) (October - Sophie) Soph to me: "You're my best friend" or "We're best friends, right?"
31) (November - Sophie) Calls clementines, "lemon-kines".
32) (November - Sophie) To daddy, while he's driving: "Be careful, daddy! Don't bump into the fog!"
33) (November - Will) Playing hide and seek at the our friends' house with several kids while the parents visit in the living room. The kids had been trying to hide under/around/behind the adults - concealing themselves with pillows and blankets. When it was Will's turn to be the seeker, he approached one of the other moms sitting on the chair and assumed she was concealing a kids. He asked her, "Angie, could you please open your legs?" as all the adults busted up laughing. :) Hey, at least he asked politely!
34) (November - Sophie) Brutus licked her toes. "Eeew, he licked my polish!"
35) (December - Sophie) Picking kids up at the babysitters, I'm carrying Sophie up the steps from the basement playroom. She says to me: "Be careful going up the steps, mommy!" And then when we reached the top of the stairs and she said: "Be careful standing on your feet, mommy!" Wow. I must exude grace and good balance to my daughter.
36) (December - Sophie) When Sophie's outside in the cold, her eyes start to water and sometimes tears start to fall involuntarily. Once, when that started to happen, she said to me: "I think I'm crying..." I said: "You're crying?" And she said: "Ya, my drippers are falling!"
37) (December - Sophie) I was talking to Craig and didn't answer right away when Sophie was trying to get my attention. After asking me to collect her water bottle from her (in the car) repeatedly, she said: "Why do I have to ask three times?"
38) (December - Sophie) I asked Sophie if she pooped at Lisa's house today. She responded: "I tried, but the poop kept staying in my butt. It said 'what are you trying to do?' And I said 'I'm trying to poop!' And it said 'uh uhh!!'." LOL
39) (December - Sophie) Me: "Soph, if you're going to color, don't scribble. Color neatly."
Soph: "I don't know! My crayon keeps scribbling! I don't know how to stop it!" (And later...) "What's going on with my blue crayon? It keeps scribbling!"
40) (December - Sophie) From the next room, I hear Will say "Sophie hit me!" (His tone didn't sound too concerned.) So I said "Sophie, did you hit your brother?" And she said "No! I didn't hit him! I just popped him in the lips!" Confused, I said "Well, popping in the lips is not okay either." To which she replied, "Ooooh... okay. You're right. I won't do it again."

Will-isms
1) (Feb) Will to Lisa (our babysitter) at nap time: "Every time I close my eyes, they just keep popping open!"
2) (Feb) Walking out to the garage, the rain is sprinkling lightly. Will says "If only I had my dinosaur umbrella". If only... haha!
3) (Feb) Will to Sophie at the dinner table: "Let me explain something to you, Sophie..." Haha!
And later, when she was refusing to eat the rest of her plate: "Sophie, look at my face... Do I look happy?" [Makes a disappointed face as Sophie says "no".] "Then you better eat your food so I can look happy."
4) (Feb) Getting dressed by himself in the morning, Will pulled a buttoned henley shirt over his head without unbuttoning it. (No easy task given his head circumference!) Craig asked Will if that was difficult. Will said: "No, it wasn't that hard... I just used my might." LOL :-)
5) (Feb) I asked Will what I should put in his lunch tomorrow. He taps his lip with one finger and says "hmm..." Then he lists a bunch of fruits and vegetables and says: "And what should I have for my grain? Maybe cereal? Ooh! And for my protein, I want peanuts!" I heart that kid. :-) Covering all his bases! Makes mama proud.
6) (Feb) Will has recently become sensitive to the way his... um... penis feels in his underwear. As in, how it's positioned. He says he wants it pointing up. ;-) Anyway, he's been frequently sticking his hand down his pants to adjust himself and we are constantly telling him he needs to do that from the outside of his clothes and try to do it more privately. Once, after Craig corrected him again, he told Craig: "But this is kind of my thing... It's what I do." Haha!
7) (Feb) Will doesn't want to sleep alone all of a sudden. For the past couple months, he has been expressing a genuine feeling of loneliness at bedtime and he gets really upset about the idea of having no one with him throughout the night. I've contemplated putting the kids together on occasion, but I really think that would backfire. Some nights are better than others. When I'm able, I will lay with him briefly while he's falling asleep. One night in particular, I was reading my book by flashlight beside him in his bed and told him to close his eyes and try to sleep. He told me: "If you see my eyes blink, it's just because I'm trying to make my eyelashes comfortable." :-)
8) (Mar) Another night after kids were in bed, Craig and I were watching a movie in our room (which is upstairs). We could hear will sneaking up the steps so we paused the movie and asked: "Will, what are you doing?" He replied: "I heard a noise and I followed the trail of sound. I ran very quick to the bottom of the steps and then I came up the first few very medium so you wouldn't hear me."
9) (Mar) Will, confused at something that I absentmindedly said wrong, asked: "Is that an expression?" LOL
We'd been discussing expressions ever since he questioned my instructing him to "hop" in the tub or tell him I was going to "run" to the store.
10) (Mar) Will got some highly complicated Transformers for Christmas. It took Craig a LONG time, but he can finally transform them for Will in about 5-10 minutes a piece. I haven't a clue where to even begin with them, but Will will sometimes start and get stuck with one. So one day, when Craig was not home, Will got as far as he could and then asked me to finish it. I told him I didn't know how, which is an answer I like to conveniently hold on to simply because I don't really like doing that kind of thing. And, being the Riedeman spawn that he is, and once again proving that he is sooooo much like his daddy... Will said: "Why don't you just learn?" Dang. My cover has been blown. :(
11) (Mar) Sunday morning, I'm getting breakfast started while Will is watching a show in the living room. Without knowing what I'm doing, Wills calls to me: "Mom... could you get me a BIG stack of pancakes?" :-) I had a flash of Will Ferrell in Wedding Crashers demanding a meatloaf, although MY Will asked a lot nicer than him. But it was just funny - he must have been really hungry - that he asked for a big stack as though I would just deliver it to the living room.
2) (Feb) Walking out to the garage, the rain is sprinkling lightly. Will says "If only I had my dinosaur umbrella". If only... haha!
3) (Feb) Will to Sophie at the dinner table: "Let me explain something to you, Sophie..." Haha!

Will-isms
This is a bit of a shorter list than usual, but it's been awhile...
1) (November) Both kids are pretty technology-literate (as most kids are in their generation). Craig told Will he would put the movie Babe in the DVD player for him to just press play in the morning. Will said "Okay, daddy... set the volume at 22 'cause that's how loud I like to watch it".
2) (November) Sophie is happily playing with a puzzle, but Will apparently wants her company with what he's doing. He says "Sophie! I have a splendid idea! Do you want to play with monster trucks?" LOL
3) (November) Will ate a bite size Milky Way & Twix after lunch today and Craig asked him which one he liked better. Will was thoughtful for a moment and then said "I didn't like the Twix best because it was 'hilly'. And I like smooth things instead of bumpy ones." Good answer!
4) (November) Will and I often play the "I love you bigger than ___" game where we go back and forth saying what we love the other one bigger/more than. He's usually very creative. So at one point, I said "I love you bigger than Australia" (our things are often dinosaurs, states/countries, and outer space), to which he responded "I love you bigger than Mali".
I said "Molly-who?"
He replied "Mali the state!"
I said "do you mean the country?"
Will: "Ya!"
Me: "Where's Mali?"
Will: "I'll show you on my globe!"
He flipped on the light, grabbed his Leap Frog globe and pointed directly to the little country within the middle of Africa.
His next "I love you bigger than __"? "I love you bigger than Jared Sullinger." (The tallest player on the OSU basketball team. :)
And on another day, when I told him I loved him bigger than the Atlantic Ocean, he didn't hesitate to come right back with "I love you bigger than the Pacific Ocean".
5) (November) On the way to Brutus's appointment with the vet (Aunt Kelly), Brutus was shaking really badly in the car. Will kept reassuring him "It's okay, Brutus. It's just a check up!" :) Brutus always shakes in the car.
6) (November) Brutus had a rare poop accident on our kitchen floor overnight and Will calls to us from the bottom of the stairs to let us know. We told him not to touch it and we'd be right down to clean it up. Then we hear him say "Good grief...[<--that's been common lately] I shouldn't have to look at this". ;) And just a few minutes later, when I came downstairs, I heard him singing in his room while getting dressed: "Who let the dogs out? Who? Who? Who? Who?" Hahaha!!! ;-)
7) (January) Tucking Will in for bed, he says to me "Mommy, I just can't stop loving you". Aaaaand then my heart completely exploded. That boy is so darn sweet.
8) (January) I'm working at the dining room table after the kids' bedtime when Will comes out of his room. I ask him what he's doing out of bed and he says: "Here's what you need to know... I have to go #1".
9) (February) Driving home from the sitters, Will asks if he can honk the horn when we pull in the garage. "I really liked doing that when I was three. Now I'm kind of old."
"You're old?" I ask.
"No... I'm kind of new."
And then later: "I wish I had a horn."
Me: "Just a horn?"
Will: "And a steering wheel."
Me: "But not the whole car?"
Will: [shrugs]
Well, he won't be hard to please at 16! :)
10) (February) Sophie is still a bit of a mommy's girl and ALWAYS refers to our home as "mommy's house" (or Craig's and my bed and "mommy's bed"). Craig and Will frequently try to correct her. So as we were pulling up to our driveway on our way home from the sitter's, Sophie said "I see mommy's house!" And Will responded "It's all of our house. Mommy, daddy, Will, Sophie and Brutus. And together, we're a family! The Riedeman family house!" :)
11) (February) "Yay! We're gonna' Dougie!" (after I turned on the song). Both kids love to 'do the Dougie'. Haha!!!
12) "Boys have penises and girls have lady parts." Both kids were naked before bath time and we have always referred to Sophie's private parts as "lady parts". But it was just funny to hear him announce that.
13) At karate class, Will and some other kids were dressed and waiting for class to start. Will's friend Jagger and his family had just walked in and were getting shoes off. A different mom was correcting her son who was standing between her and the door, so she was looking in Jagger's general direction but talking to her own son. Will was looking at the lady strangely and suddenly said (in not the friendliest tone): "That's not your kid... that's Jagger". Haha! I, of course, corrected him and talked to him about respecting other adults. The other mom looked a little annoyed at first, but then laughed it off with a comment about "the things kids say". Will was just being protective of his buddy! :)
1) (November) Both kids are pretty technology-literate (as most kids are in their generation). Craig told Will he would put the movie Babe in the DVD player for him to just press play in the morning. Will said "Okay, daddy... set the volume at 22 'cause that's how loud I like to watch it".

Will-isms
Picking up where we left off in July...
1) (July) Eating dinner at Nagoya for Grandma Riedeman's birthday, Will looks at the menu and reads the word "beer". He then tells Craig "That says 'beer'. Can I have a beer?" He has no idea what beer is because it's never at our house. :)
2) (July) Driving in the car, we are playing Will's favorite game. It starts with "I'm thinking of a dinosaur that..." and then you give clues and other people have to guess it. I don't remember all of Will's clues, but on of them was that the dinosaur was a meat eater. So when Craig guessed "an Edmontasaurus?"... Will responded in this don't-be-ridiculous tone of voice: "I saaaaid it was a meat eater!" Duh, Craig. ;) And later, when it was Craig's turn, he told Will "I don't know, buddy. I'm running out of dinosaurs that I know." So Will said "I'll help you think of a new one... what about a Brontosaurus? We haven't done that one yet!" Craig said "Oh, I'm not sure what that looks like. How will I give you clues?" So then Will told Craig some descriptive details, Craig repeated them, and Will guessed it. Haha! :)
3) (August) This in not a Will-ism, but something funny our babysitter relayed to me. (It's actually a "Charli-ism"!) Will had dumped a bunch of board games out of their boxes on the living room floor and Lisa asked him to pick them up. When Will didn't start cleaning right away, the other little girl Charli jumped in to add: "I'm serious, Will. If you don't start listening, I will NOT marry you!" Charli is about 4 months younger than Will and they have been best buds since birth. (She is Jagger's younger sister.) Will recently told me that Charli was his girlfriend. Way to keep him in line, Char!!
4) (August) Papa Riedeman is asking Will about our most recent trip to the beach. He asks Will "How deep was the water? How far did you go out?" And Will responds: "It was up to my junk."
5) (August) Will announces to me this evening, just as Craig is about to give Will a bath: "The Riedeman men are ready for a bath... Craig Thomas Riedeman and William Dean Riedeman are ready to take a bath!"
6) (August) Craig sticks his head in my car to say goodbye to Will before we back out of the driveway. Will asks Craig "Why can I see more skin on some parts of your head and not others?" He started the sentence over several times and didn't know how exactly to ask it because he didn't know the word "scalp". But that's how it came out... and Craig responded "Well, because I'm losing my hair, buddy. Do you think you'll lose your hair some day?" Will says "yes". Craig asks him "How old will you be when you lose your hair?" Will replies "Probably about your age." :)
7) (August) We're telling silly "knock knock" jokes with Aunt Casey and after one of hers, Will told her "You're killin' me!" ;-)
8) (August) Swimming in Nana & Papa's pool, just the two of us, Will tells me (as we're hugging and swirling) "I love you, mommy. I love swimming in the pool with you. I'm gonna' marry you." Awww!! I tell him "That's so sweet, Will, but you know I'm already married don't you?" Will: "Yes".
Me: "To who? Who am I married to?"
Will: "Daddy".
Me: "That's right. And one day, you're going to meet a really nice girl who is smart and funny and beautiful. And you will love her. And then maybe you'll get married."
Will: "I'm going to marry Charli." :)
9) (August) Craig has a rule that the kids cannot play with toys (or leave them sit) on the leather chair because he's afraid they'll scratch it. So when he finds an abandoned toy sitting on the chair this day, he ask "Who left the toy sitting on the leather chair?" Will raised his eyebrows and said "Sophie did it... I can't explain that."
10) (August) Craig and I are having a conversation at the dinner table and we hear Will casually talking to himself... apparently listing steps for how to play with his farm animal toys. This is what we heard: "Step 1: walk over to the barn. Step 2: open the barn door and pick the animal you want to play with. Step 3: play with it." Haha! I think he was listing steps because of something similar we'd read in a library book recently.
11) (August) Will always comes upstairs to greet me in the mornings when he wakes. Most of the time I'm getting ready for work and he just chats with me for awhile and then goes downstairs to play with toys. I often remind him to get dressed when he goes and this morning he said "I'll meet you downstairs... okay, mama?" He just sounded very adult like!
12) (August) Talking to Craig about tractors and I think which ones he wants to own when he's bigger (?)... Will starts a sentence with "I'll tell you what, daddy..." Cracked us both up. :)
13) (August) Touring the new elementary school, we walk through the library and Will scrunches his eyebrows and asks me: "Sooo... do you think they have a dinosaur book in here? I'm confused."
14) (August) Will listed 3 big-named dinosaurs for me and then told me that they were "predators" of the Stirachosaurus (sp?). He's recently been curious about "predators" and "prey".
15) (August) Returning from the library, we are driving on the road perpendicular to ours. Will tells me "Our house will be on the right side of the road when we turn onto our road and Dana's [our across the street neighbor] will be on the left side". It amazes me that he can visualize that. He's known left and right for a long time now, but to be able to mentally visualize directions? I quizzed him with other people's houses we know too. Like, "when we drive to Lisa's house... is her house on the left or the ride sight of the street?" And he got it!
16) (August) Will told me he saw a new litle girl named Teagan at Lisa's house today. I asked who Teagan was... a baby? a big girl? Will said "No, she's two like Sophie and Jax. She's a 'toddler'".
17) (August) Will spells random words in the middle of conversation now (because he's heard us do it). For example, "Mommy, when will we see a C-A-T in our field again?" or "Do you think our D-O-G will scare it away?" (P.S. - this was August, but he's been spelling 3 letter words since probably late May/early June. But just recently, he's gotten really interested and good at spelling in general! 3 and 4-letter words are almost always correct... and he even makes a pretty great attempt at larger words too! It's that visualizing skill again... I can just see him picturing the word and sounding each part out in his head. My mom told me he spelled 'apple' the other day while eating them for lunch after school. He learned that, among others, from an alphabet/spelling toy we own.)
18) (August) Lately, whenever I ask Will to do something, his response is "Sure thing, mama!" :)
19) (September) A particularly warm day. Will says "Mom, it's a hot monkey outside!" (He got that from our babysitter. LOL)
20) (September) At a play date in the park with some friends, Will is amazed at how fast his new-ish friend Marley can run. She's five months older than Will and has much longer legs. :) After a little while playing tag, Will tells Marley's mom: "She's so fast! And she never gives up!" Then later that night at the dinner table, he asks me: "Mama, who do you think would win in a race... a cheetah or Marley?" Hahaha!!! The game continued after I laughed so hard, with other speed comparisons: "a giraffe or an elephant? a polar bear or a camel? a flamingo or a..." :)
21) (September) "Daddy, do you want to take an S-O-W-R [he means shower] with me tonight [instead of a bath]?" More spelling!
22) {September) I asked Craig "do we have any P-I-C-K-L-E spears?" I was packing lunch and didn't want to say it out loud 'cause I knew Will would ask for one. Craig was sitting there trying to visualize the word for a few seconds to figure out what I said... and Will asked me "did you just spell 'pickle'?" :) Craig looked amazed and baffled. He said "my 4-year-old got it before me"! Haha@ :)
1) (July) Eating dinner at Nagoya for Grandma Riedeman's birthday, Will looks at the menu and reads the word "beer". He then tells Craig "That says 'beer'. Can I have a beer?" He has no idea what beer is because it's never at our house. :)

Will-isms
Ooo-eee! It's been since March for my last Will-isms post! The boy is making entirely too much sense most of the time anymore that I'm not collecting these as quickly. ;)
1) (Apr) Sophie is sitting in her high chair pushed up to the table while we're eating dinner and twisting her body to try to climb out after she finished eating. Will's always trying to mimic our parenting, so after several times of her not listening, he said "Sophie, we're just trying to protect you. You need to listen to us when we tell you to sit down."
2) (Apr) Will is already in the bath tub as I am getting a fussing Sophie into the tub too. Will already has both of the little, plastic shovels (the prized tub toys at the time) in hand and knows Sophie will probably be jealous. He says to her: "Sophie, since you're sad, do you want the yellow shovel?" After she ignores him for a moment, he presses on: "Yes? Would you?" Well I don't remember if she ever answered him, but I was feeling a moment of pride in my boy... until he finished with: "Well, I had it first" in this gentle "too bad" sort of voice.
3) (Apr) Not a "Will-ism", but a funny side note... Casey went shopping for Will & Sophie's birthday presents at a learning toys store. She found a cool interactive learning activity for Will called Hot Dots in which there are many topics to select from. The store clerk was trying to help Casey select something that would be age appropriate for a 3-4 year old and Casey kept insisting that he needed something at a 2nd grade level. :) The lady brought her games that taught colors and shapes, etc. So Casey informed the lady, "Ma'am, the other day he told me that a giraffe was diurnal... this is not going to cut..." :) Haha! She ended up selecting something with phonics.
4) (Apr) Craig comes in from grilling to say the burgers are done and Will is so excited for this dinner. He says "Daddy, I love you! I'm gonna' give you a hamburger hug!"
5) (Apr) "Mommy, when I toot... that's how I keep you away from me."
6) (Apr) Craig: "Did the Easter Bunny come to our house?"
Will: "Ya. He brought baskets and hid eggs."
Craig: "How did he get in here?"
Will: "I don't know... he's sneaky!"
7) (May) Craig was venting to me about something that was annoying him and he used the word "stupid". Will said "Daddy, don't say 'stupid'. It's not a nice word." Craig said "You're right, buddy. That was bad wasn't it?" Will told Craig, "You're not a bad person, daddy, but we don't say 'stupid'."
8) (May) On the way home from Grandpa King's birthday dinner out, I'm looking through the pictures on my camera. We took a big group picture before leaving the restaurant and I was pleased to see that Will had smiled (a little) like I asked him to. I told him, "Thank you for smiling in our picture, Will. You look really nice." Will responded, "Thank you for eating so much, mommy."
9) (June) At dinner, Will is announcing all the things he's going to do after we finish eating. And then he finishes with: "...so you're just gonna' have to deal with that." Whoa! Mouthy! I don't think he meant it the way it sounded. :)
10) (June) Will and I are discussing what we have growing in our garden. We're discussing herbs and I explain to him that they help us to flavor our food. Will says: "Ooh! I know what we should grow in our garden! We should grow ketchup!" :) I tell him ketchup doesn't just grow, it's made from tomatoes. I have since looked up a recipe for homemade ketchup for us to try.
11) (June) Daddy is telling Will he needs to take some medicine for a headache and neck ache that's been bothering him. Will said "I need to take some medicine too". Craig told him "We only take medicine if we really need to when we're sick. Are you sick?" Will said "Yes, I keep burping so much!" He really wasn't but we had just finished dinner.
12) (June) Will is playing outside with daddy while I'm in the kitchen making dinner. He runs in in a panic and tells me: "Mama! There's a spiderweb in your basil!" Haha. I'm more amused that he remembered which herb was basil!
13) (July) Will is playing with his dinosaur figurines when Craig comes downstairs one morning. Will holds one up and tells Craig: "Daddy, I know this is a parasaurolophus, but I'm gonna' pretend it's a stigamolic [sp?] 'cause I don't have one of those." :)
14) (July) Sophie is whining about something for quite awhile and Will is clearly tired of it. He says (in a tired, exasperated sort of way), "Zip it, Sophie!" We say that do the dog, sometimes.
15) (July) For awhile now, Will has corrected us whenever we say a strong negative word. AS soon as he hears it, he will say "Mama (or Daddy), it's not nice to say stupid (or ugly or hate)."
16) (July) Another common phrase out of Will is: "I have an excellent idea!" followed by whatever the said idea may be.
17) (July) Driving home from Cleveland, we are about 30 minutes from home and Will and Sophie are talking and being silly in their seats. Suddenly, Will urgently says: "Slam on the brakes! I have to go pee!" :) Craig and I about died laughing. We pulled off on a country side road and he peed on the side of the road.
18) (July) We've discussed and told our phone number to Will before but never very thoroughly tried to teach it. Randomly, while playing with a toy phone, he asks: "Mama, is our phone number (xxx) xxx-xxxx?" He was correct! And he said it so quickly and casually... I was shocked!
19) (July) Playing at our friends' camp site, I spot some little dinosaur figurines. Will is playing a game with our little friend and I'm showing Sophie the little dinosaurs and telling her their names. I'm pretty sure one is a spinosaurus, but I decide to ask Will. The thing is only about the size of my thumb and I hold it up for him to see. I ask "Is this a spinosaurus, Will?" He glances up quickly and says "yes"... then immediately, "No! That's a dimetrodon." (They look similar.) I ask him, "How do you know?" His response? "Because a spinosaurus walks on 2 legs and a dimetrodon walks on 4 legs." Sure enough, this dinosaur was walking on 4 legs. :) His memory astounds me.
20) (July) Whenever Will doesn't nap well or falls asleep late at the sitters, he's often in a whiny, grumpy sort of mood when I pick him up. Think: lots of scowling and disagreeing with everything everyone says. On this particular day, it was scorching hot outside and I'd broken a sweat just loading the kids into their car seats while wearing my work clothes. As we pull away, I cheerfully say "Wow! It's hot today! What do you say we go home and get a really big glass of ice water?" Will protests in a very whiny voice: "Noooo! I want a medium-size glass!" Of course he does. :) Stinker.

Sure enough, this dinosaur was walking on 4 legs.
:) Stinker.

Will-isms
1) (Dec) Craig just shaved his few-day-old facial scruff for a meeting this morning. At nap time, Will was saying goodnight to daddy. He put his hands on both sides of Craig's cheeks all loving and pulled Craig's face close to his and said "You... are old. Really old. But! You're looking good. You're looking good without your beard." Ha! How's that for a twist from the lovey dovey? LOL
2) (Dec) At the dinner table, Will is resting his head in his hands while eating. I say to him "You look tired, buddy. Are you tired?" He replies "No, I'm just calming myself down." :)
3) (Dec) For bedtime prayer, Will says "...and Lord, please help Santa not to fall off our roof..."
4) (Dec) On our way to Grandma Verna's house for Christmas, Will is talking and talking as though it's his job. At one point, after a brief pause, he says "Hey, guys! Look up ahead!" There wasn't really anything specific that he could say he wanted us to see, but it always cracks us up when he calls Craig and I "guys". And it just sounded so funny and mature that he wanted to draw our attention by saying "look up ahead".
5) (Dec) While at the table (at grandma's Christmas party) eating a plate of vegetables, Will very casually says "Hey, Jim..." It got quiet as everyone waited to hear what Will would ask/say in such a casual tone. Will asked him "What's your favorite dinosaur?" as if that was the most normal question in the world to ask. Everyone laughed at the randomness of it all.
6) (Dec) Saying goodbye to a preschool classmate after their holiday party: "Merry Christmas!"... and then casually as he's turning around... "Feliz Navidad!"
7) (Dec) Discussing favorite colors on the way to preschool in Nana's car:
Will: "Jill's favorite color is orange."
Nana: "What about Julie? What's her favorite color?"
Will: "Azul."
Nana: "What?"
Will: "Azul... that's blue in Spanish."
8) (Dec) "Mommy, I appreciate you... And I appreciate that you made me apples for lunch."
9) (Dec) "Your necklace is pretty. And YOU are pretty. And I don't love you a little bit... I love you soooo so much." Love. Love. Love.
10) (Jan) For a long time, Will has referred to our good friends (our usual group) as "The Friends". So he'll ask "Are the friends coming over?" Or (randomly some morning at breakfast) "What are the friends doing right now?" (8:30 a.m.) To which I replied "I'm pretty sure they're sleeping." He was so confused by this... Why on Earth would anyone sleep past 7 a.m.? ;)
11) (Jan) Tucking Will in for bed...
Me: "Sweet dreams, my baby boy."
Will: "Sweet dreams, my baby girl."
12) (Jan) Another night at bedtime...
Me: "I love you, my beautiful boy."
Will: "I love you, my beautiful girl."
13) (Jan) "Mommy, do you want to spend some time with me." I can't (in a million years) imagine NOT dropping whatever I'm doing after that sweet of a question.
14) (Jan) Will and I were making silly, cross-eyed faces at each other over the lunch table. After a minute, Will told me that his eyes and head hurt. I told him "Sometimes that happens when you cross your eyes and move them around funny... You know what would make you feel better?... If you finish your lunch and go lay down for a nap... That will probably make your headache go away." To which he responded "Oh! That is a great idea!" :)
15) (Jan) Counting to 100, Will pauses at 33 and says "Ooh! That's Jon Diebler's number!" Continuing on, he pauses again at 44 and says "Ooh! That's Will Buford's number!" The kid loves Buckeye Basketball! He knows at least five players names and numbers.
16) (Jan) "Mommy, since Sophie doesn't have a penis, where does her pee come out? Does she have a hole in her leg?" Yikes! Here we go... the female anatomy. I actually kept it super simple and told him Sophie has a tiny hole between her legs in the same place that Will has a penis. He was okay with that answer. How much longer can I put this off?
17) (Jan) Will has been saying "I suppose" in sentences a lot lately. It's so funny.
18) (Feb) "Mommy, I have something I want to tell you... Don't EVER stick your hand in a carnivore's mouth!" Haha!
19) (Feb) Craig took the kids to McDonald's as a treat for lunch. [Insert cringe and upset stomach from mommy.] Will calls it "Old MacDonalds". :) Before laying down for nap (with his belly full of stuff that, surely, is not actual food), he tells Craig "Daddy, do you know what I'm going to dream about?... Old MacDonalds." Clearly, Will was thrilled with this treat. Sophie, on the other hand, dissected her burger like a frog.
20) (Feb) "Oh look! My pee is clear! That means I drank enough water!"
21) (Feb) For whatever reason, Craig is teaching Will how to compliment a girl. Will has just told Sophie she's pretty (on his own) and Craig's encouraging him to elaborate on what specifically is a pretty feature about her. (Again, I don't know why Craig wants to teach our son to flatter a woman at the age of three.)
Craig: "Like this Will: 'Sophie, you're pretty because you have big, beautiful eyes'."
Will: "Sophie, you're pretty because you have big feet."
Craig: "Well, usually you want to say something about the features on her head, like her hair or her eyes." (Okay, I'm not a feminist... but why can't he teach Will to compliment her personality or her intelligence?)
Will: "Sophie, I think you're pretty because you have a nice head."
LOL - well, he tried!
22) (Feb) Coming in from playing outside in the snow, Will wants to get the snow off his mittens. He starts to shake them and says "Hey! It's like the penis song!" And he proceeds to shake them while singing "Shake, shake, shake... shake, shake, shake... shake your mittens." :) Do you all remember Will's "penis song" from my last Will-isms post? The one he sings after peeing?
23) (Feb) Will has show-and-tell tomorrow and needs to bring in something that starts with the first letter of his name. We've narrowed it down to a whale (stuffed animal), a Words book, a wolf (stuffed animal), and a William water bottle (it says his name on the front) with a cool flip top that Aunt Casey got him. Will doesn't seem satisfied with any of these suggestions. He tells me "What about my frisbee? Can I bring that?" I say "No, buddy... it has to start with a 'W'." He replies "Yes, but I could call it a 'wisbee'!" Clever little man!
24) (Feb) "Mommy! Daddy! Mommy! Daddy! The snow is melting! It's almost spring!"
25) (Feb) I just got home from work and am currently beginning to change Sophie's diaper. Will runs in to greet me and yells "Mommeeee!" Then quieter "Can I hug you, mommy? I missed you. I haven't seen you all day." Of course I hugged him and told him I missed him too. Do you see where I get my "working mom" guilt? I wish I could just work part time.
26) (Feb) At breakfast: "Mommy, you're pretty. You're the prettiest girl in the world."
27) (Mar) Singing as he walks up the stairs: "March... march... march, march, march... Up... up... up, upstairs." Repeat. I say to him "Gee, buddy. That's a great song. Did you just make that up?" He replies "Ya... it's about Christmas." [Insert my confused face.] Umm... okay?
28) (Mar) This is possibly my favorite Will-ism to date. Will has just finished eating more food than I've ever seen him eat in one sitting. I say "My goodness, Will! That was a lot of food you just ate!" He leans back in his seat, opens his arms out wide and says "My work here is done." I about died laughing!!!! :) :) :)
29) (Mar) I just set the kids' milk cups down on the table. Will says "Mommy, I'm so proud of you that you brought me the orange cup." Haha!
That's it for now! And, ladies, don't try to steal my kid just so you can enjoy the sweet sentiments that I receive on a daily basis. He's all mine until that lucky, special lady comes along. He really is the sweetest, isn't he?
2) (Dec) At the dinner table, Will is resting his head in his hands while eating. I say to him "You look tired, buddy. Are you tired?" He replies "No, I'm just calming myself down." :)
3) (Dec) For bedtime prayer, Will says "...and Lord, please help Santa not to fall off our roof..."

Will-isms
Another dose of funnies:
1) (Oct) "Mommy, cookies don't have legs because we eat them." [???] I think this may have been around another phase of discussing what is "alive" and what is not?
2) (Oct) In the evening, I'm getting ready to brush Will's teeth as he protests (whiney):
Will: "Nooo! I want daddy to brush my teeth!"
Me: "Why?"
Will: [trying to think fast since he doesn't have a reason...] "Because I love him!"
3) (Oct) "I don't like Massey Ferguson tractors. I like Minneapolis Moline and Case tractors."
4) (Oct) "Mommy, can you go to college with me?" Hahaha!!! I laughed pretty hard at this one because it came out of no where. I said "Sure! That would be so fun! We could room together and everything!" Haha! I'll remind him of that as he's applying to colleges in 14 years. :)
5) (Oct) Will and I were disagreeing about his friend Jagger's age. Will said "if you argue with me... I promise you, he is 5." Um, okay. [He was right.] Then just a little later, he added "and Sophie is 1 and 'little Addyson' is 2... Is that correct?" :)
6) (Nov) It's early Saturday morning and it's beginning to be bright enough that we don't need lights on in the house. Will is sitting near a lamp in the living room as I go to shut it off.
Will: "No! Don't! It will cool me off!"
Me: "It will cool you off?"
Will: "It's keeping me warm!"
7) (Nov) It's almost bedtime and I'm trying to get Will up from playing and into his room to change into pj's. So... a la Sandra Boynton, I say: "The moon is up, it's getting late..." Will, instantly knowing where I'm going with this, protested "Noooo!" But I still continued: "Let's get ready to celebrate! It's..." Will: "Clothes time!" Haha! You'd have to have read the book to get that one.
8) (Nov) At Maumee Bay on Thanksgiving morning, Will is rattling off a bunch of things he knows (using lots of big words) to Casey and Brittany and Troy who are all just waking up. Casey is totally encouraging this, asking him lots of questions. But at one point, she asks him how to spell his whole first name [he knows] and he ducked his head and coyly said "I'm a little shy..." Ha! Ya right! What a little actor. He did end up spelling it for her but it was funny that he just said that out of no where. Will is definitely not shy. I think he got that out of our feelings book.
9) (Nov) On our drive to the library this morning, Will asks me "Mommy, are we heading east?" I say "No, actually, we're heading west." He says "Oh, yes! I love west! That's my favorite direction!" Haha! I laugh and ask "Oh, really? Why?" And he says "because it has a 'W' just like Will!"
10) (Dec) One of the old farm dogs had to be put down recently and Will knows that Craig is really sad about this. Tonight, when we get ready to say our prayers, Will starts with "Dear Lord, Please bless Buster so that he can have a nice heaven with Jesus." Our boy has such a sweet heart.
Sometimes Will just breaks off into this whole spiel about whatever and just talks and talks and talks. The next two are an example of that.
11) (Dec) Our Magic Tree House book has a honey guide bird in it that is pecking at a honeycomb hanging from a tree in an African forest. Will tells me: "Woodpeckers peck at trees too... And hummingbirds are like woodpeckers because they have long beaks... except hummingbirds flap their wings really, really fast like this [he demonstrates this for me] while they smell the flowers... We don't smell flowers because they would make us sneeze."
12) (Same day, same book) There are lots of animals that live on the African plains. Some that Will knows like gazelles and zebras and elephants. Others that are new to him like wildebeests and hyenas and vultures. He tells me: "Hyenas look like mean dogs with spots and they have sharp teeth because they are carnivores and they eat meat. Giraffes and zebras are herbivores and they are not mean. Lions are sometimes mean and sometimes they are nice. But Tyrannosaurus Rexes are always mean." Holy tangent! ;)
13) (Dec) "Jawstoppers [he's mixing up the words Gobstoppers and Jawbreakers from Halloween candy that he was not allowed to have because of their size and hardness] are a 'sometimes food' because they are a dessert like ice cream except they don't come in a cone." We read a really great book as part of our Tot School nutrition lesson back in the beginning of summer and have frequently repeated their excellent message of explaining junk food and healthy food as "sometimes foods" vs "everyday food". I think that is so important for kids to know that it is okay to eat ALL foods but that many of them are just not eaten every day. That's a very healthy food outlook. My kids get treats and junk on occasion but, more importantly, I want them to learn what foods are good for their bodies EVERY day. This came in handy just this past Sunday when we went to a kiddie Christmas party and grandma loaded Will up with garbage food (nuggets, fries, cupcakes, etc.) at 3 pm... just in time to spoil his dinner. Will happily inhaled everything put in front of him at the party. Later at bath time that night (after he'd finished a very light dinner), I asked Will if he enjoyed the party. He, of course, said yes and then told me he loved seeing Santa and getting a present. And then, all on his own, he added that he'd eaten "sometimes foods". I asked him why he called them sometimes foods and he said "because they are junk food". I told him he was right and that I was glad he had a good time.
14) (Dec) This one is a little graphic - sorry. Craig has taught Will a new song for after he pees standing up on the potty to make sure he's "dry" before pulling up his underwear. So now, after he goes, I'll hear him from outside the bathroom door singing: "Shake, shake, shake... shake, shake, shake... shake your penis... shake your penis" (to the tune of "shake your booty"). Do you know which tune I mean? The original lyrics Craig taught him used the word "wiener" but I asked them to change that. Nice, huh? I'm so proud. And I made sure to tell him he's only allowed to sing it at home - not at school or in public. So sometimes he'll tell me before he goes "...and I'm going to sing my song because it's okay at home".
15) (Dec) More compliments from my lover boy:
"Mommy, you are so sweet."
"You are the best mommy because you make me the healthy dinners." (He said that as I was setting down his lunch plate in front of him.)
"You're really pretty, mommy."
16) (Dec) Today Will got a much needed haircut. Problem is: he always twirls his colic on the back right/top side of his head with his right pointer finger when he's feeling sleepy or going to bed. So at bedtime tonight, Will whined for daddy to come back in his room and said "but daddy, I can't go to sleep!... because I can't twirl my hair!" Poor, sad boy. He sounded so pathetic. I felt bad for him... but he did fall asleep just fine. Maybe we should start cutting all the hair around the colic and just leave that part long. Haha - kidding. He looks super cute with his hair short again.

Will-isms
Another (long-overdue) Will-isms post! Sadly, I have not been as on top of logging his "funnies" as I would like. But I've gotten quite a few...
1) (July) We're going for an evening walk in the wagon and I tell Will he may choose just two matchbox vehicles to bring along. He decides: "Okay, I'm going to bring my red pick-up and my Chevelle." On the walk, we stop to chat with a neighbor who's husband owns a real Chevelle and Will was so amazed and full of questions.
2) (July) Craig and I have just been working outside for a couple hours picking up tree branches, bark and saw dust from the ash trees while the kids are napping. We come in to shower as the kids are getting up and Will notices the dirt particles and saw dust covering Craig's arms. He asks "Daddy, why do you have crumbs on your arms?"
3) (July) I'm getting ready to go for a walk.
Me (to Will): "Should I go for a walk by myself?"
Will: "No, I wanna' come but I'm not ready yet."
Me: "When will you be ready?"
Will: "48 minutes" :)
4) (July) Out of no where, Will says "I grow up so fast." I guess I've told him that a bunch.
5) (July) Craig (to Will): "What's daddy's favorite football team?"
Will: "The Colts! 'Cause they have Peyton Manning!"
The Colts are not actually Craig's favorite team but he does love Peyton Manning. We were just surprised he remembered this!
6) (July) I've just told Will he needs to come sit down on a chair for a time-out because he was talking back to me. He then tells me: "I can't. I'm too busy." (Playing with his trucks.) I reply "Well I'm sorry if my discipline doesn't fit into your agenda, but you need to come here right now and have a seat".
7) (July) Last night, Will and I read a Dora book about the first day of school. As usual, there were several words/phrases in Spanish in the text. So this morning as I'm changing Sophie's diaper, Will comes in to tell me: "Buenos Dias, Mommy!" :) So cute. He also knows all his colors in Spanish.
8) (Aug) The kids and I are eating dinner while Craig's at the park playing basketball with some guys. Will's asking about it and is always curious as to what everyone is doing when they aren't with him. He asks me "Who are daddy's friends?" I say "I don't know who all is playing tonight, buddy." Will responds "I think daddy's playing basketball with Peyton Manning." I say "I'm sure daddy would LOVE to play basketball with Peyton Manning, but I really don't think that's happening."
9) (Sept) Will is quizzing Sophie on animal sounds. He's making his way through the basic farm animals and then says "Okay, Sophie... this one might be tricky... what does a rooster say?" I love that he picks up words like 'tricky'. I'm sure I've said that one to him.
10) (Sept) Will is circling our friend Mike's parked truck in our driveway on his riding tractor. Craig said to Will: "Will, you need to be careful so you don't hit Mike's truck. Why don't you just stop riding for now and then you can ride all you want when Mike leaves?" Will waits a few moments and then says "Okay, Mike... It's about time to go home!" :)
11) (Sept) Our friends are over on a Saturday evening. We have two friends named Mike and one of them isn't there. Will asks "Where's the Mike with hair?" Haha!!! The Mike that was at our house shaves his head.
12) (Sept) Will is obsessed with knowing all the names of cars, trucks, construction vehicles, etc. In one of his books, there's a picture of a cow on the side of a tanker truck. Will informs Craig that it is a "dairy truck... and it's also called a tanker truck... and it's also called a semi truck".
13) (Sept) Nana (to Will): "How's your headache? Did you get rid of it during your nap?"
Will: "Yes. I left it under the bed."
14) (Sept) Will - talking to himself about Lightning MacQueen: "That's a Camaro... No, that's not a Camaro, silly!... That's a race car!"
15) (Sept) "Daddy, do you want to go swimming with me?" (It's fall and about 60 degrees outside.)
16) (Sept) This is not technically a "Will-ism"... but a funny random from Craig to Will that I overheard from another room: "See? That's why it's better to walk forward." LOL
17) (Sept) We're all riding somewhere in the car and Craig is driving while I look at a toy catalog that came in the mail.
Will (to me): "Can I look at that catalog?"
Me: "Yes. As soon as I'm done with it."
Will: "You're done with it."
Me: "Not quite yet, but almost."
Will: "Don't argue with me."
(Ooh! Mouthy one, ain't he?)
18) (Sept) At bedtime, Will is discussing how gross and smelly it is when elephants poop. [How does he know?] I agree with him and ask him who he thinks cleans it up. He tells me the elephant daddy cleans up the poop. Then he goes on to tell me that "giraffes don't poop". I tell him that yes, in fact, they do. He got a silly grin on his face and said "no, they don't!" like I just said the funniest, most ridiculous thing he'd ever heard. I explained that every animal and person that eats food and drinks water has to pee and poop. I went on to add that even birds and snakes and fish poop! I could see the wheels turning and he was just baffled. He said "Noooo!" again in that you're-ridiculous-and-kidding-me tone of voice and added "fish don't have a butt!" I just burst out laughing and he added "Nemo doesn't have a butt!" After I managed to compose myself (he was laughing hard too, probably still thinking I was kidding him), I said "just because fish and birds don't have a bottom like you doesn't mean they don't poop... Their bottom just looks different and they may just have a hole where the poop comes out." He thought about that, still in disbelief, and said "I have a light butt... elephants have a gray butt." I agreed that animal bottoms look different than people. He also said "my giraffe costume [for Halloween] doesn't poop... but a real giraffe does poop." Haha. I agreed again. The whole thing was just really funny.
19) (Oct) Will and I went outside to watch a beautiful sunset after Sophie went to bed and Craig was out playing basketball with friends. We were cuddling on the deck and I told him "Some day you might like to watch the sunset with a special girl... You know, after daddy and I got married, we went on a special vacation called a honeymoon and we watched lots of beautiful sunsets. You might do that too some day." Okay, fast forward to about 15-20 minutes later. We're inside and Will is working on his USA puzzle before bed. He tells me "I'm going to take my girl to the cow state". At first I'm confused, but then I remember our conversation outside. I ask "You are? Who's your girl? And which one is the cow state?" He replies "My woman-girl. We're gonna' go to the cow state for vacation!" I look at the puzzle (which has a small picture on each state to represent something that state is known for) and figure out which state he means. I ask "You're going to go to Oklahoma for your honeymoon?" LOL And he says "Yes!" Haha.
20) (Oct) Randomly at bedtime, Will asks me "Mommy, what's the quickest way to get to Kelly's house?" I laughed and gave him very specific directions just to be as direct as his question was. Haha. I later told Craig and he said Will had asked him the same thing more than once. Guess he's anxious to get to the farm again soon!
Okay, that's all I've got for now. Till next time...

Will-isms Part 6
Wow! It's been a little over two months since my last "Will-isms" post!
1) (Apr) Looking at a book with Will, a character is looking through a monocular. At the time, I blanked on what that was called and when he asked his favorite question ("What's that boy doing?"... he's forever asking what everyone is doing, even if he knows the answer... I suppose that's better than "why?"), I sort of stumbled and said "I forget, buddy. We'll have to look that up." He replied "It's a telescope, mommy!" Similar, but not exactly. I was just surprised he knew the word telescope so casually.
2) (Apr) I'm browning some ground beef for dinner and Will wants to watch. He says "It kinda' looks like worms, mommy." Gross comparison, but I love that he makes that connection.
3) (Apr) Will spots the moon in the sky above our chimney and tells me so. He adds "The moon is a crescent, mommy." How does he KNOW that word???
4) (Apr) Will's been very observant/curious about private parts lately. Often, when we go in the bathroom for him to pee on the potty, I go pee on the big potty too. He must have glanced when I was pulling up my pants because he asked me "Where's your junk, mommy?" I told him it's not called junk and that mommy doesn't have a penis like Will & daddy. I add that boys have penises, but girls (like mommy & Sophie) don't have penises. Then I silently pray that we move on before he thinks to ask me what girls have. I prefer to teach him proper names and not silly nicknames, but I'm not sure I'm ready to discuss the word "vagina" with my 2 year old son. Instead, he asks me "Does Diego have a penis?" I say "yes, he's a boy." He asks "Does doggy have a penis?" I ask "Is doggy a boy?" Will says "yes", so I ask "Then what do you think?" He says "yes". And then out of the blue the next morning he asks Craig "Where's doggy's penis?" :) Craig wasn't a part of this initial conversation so this totally caught him off guard - LOL. He has since asked me "what girls have" and I've told him but did not elaborate except to say "but we don't have to talk about that unless you really want to." Thank God he dropped it.
5) (Apr) At Sophie's party, Will puts on his rain boots and starts heading out the door saying "I'll be back", as though he's a teenager heading out to a movie. Whoa! That's a scary foreshadowing! Of course, we stop him (it's also raining) but it's funny that he was so casual about it.
6) (Apr) Craig's singing "Old MacDonald had a farm", and says "and on his farm he had a Will, E-I-E-I-O." (My boys sing CONSTANTLY.) Will jumps in with "No, he didn't have a Will - sing it the right way, daddy."
7) (Apr) At dinner, Will tells me to "shake your head 'no'". I don't know why he wants me to but I do and he smiles (pleased that I'm playing along) and does the same. Then he says "nod your head 'yes'". Again, I'm surprised he knows the word "nod"! I do what he says - praising him for his use of that word - and he smiles and mimics again.
8) (Apr) Playing with the fridge farm by himself in the kitchen, Will says "Silly songs make me laugh." :) That kid is so cute.
9) (2009/2010?) For a long time now, Will has called bumble bees: "bungle bees" - rhymes with jungle. I just love it!
10) (May) Going to bed at Kelly's house (temporarily) since we were there for a game night. Sophie is nearby in the pack 'n play and Will is laying down in the guest bed. So I tell Will if he's going to talk or sing (as usual) he needs to whisper so he doesn't wake Sophie. He was so good that night and did very well staying in bed and whispering. I told him I'd come up to check on him a few times and, one of the first times, he proudly told me "I whispered the 'ABC's', mommy, so I wouldn't wake up the cows and goats." How thoughtful. He can't go to Kelly's house without thinking constantly of the farm animals.
11) (May) Aunt Casey is babysitting and just finished reading a book to Will before nap time. Randomly, he tells her "Boys have junk called penises. Girls don't have penises. They have belly buttons." :) That's true...
12) (May) Will colored two pictures of cowboys and then asked if we could hang them on the fridge "for decoration".
13) (May) Sometimes Will takes F-O-R-E-V-E-R to finish his lunch when he knows he's taking a nap after. Today I'm getting impatient and trying to hurry him along and get him to stop talking and singing. He asks me "Are you cranky, mommy?" LOL
14) (May) Coming up from the basement, I'm trying to get Will to follow me because I have my hands full and don't really want him playing downstairs by himself. So I say "I'm going to go up. Will you come right behind me?" He starts to follow and says "I'm right on your tail, mommy." :) Where on Earth does he get this stuff?
15) (May) Warning!: this one is a little graphic. For a little while now, Will has been telling me what letter or number his poop or pee is shaped like after he goes in the little potty. Like if he only tinkles a little and it doesn't cover the bottom of the little potty, he examines and thinks it looks like a number. He'll tell me "Look, mommy! My pee looks like a 6!" or "It's a zero, mommy!" Another time, he finished pooping, stood up and said "It's a 'U'!"...(then turning to the side a little..."No, it's a 'C'!" LOL
16) (May) On the way home from the car show with daddy, Will says (totally out of no where, as most all of his funnies are) "My names are 'Champ' and 'Partner'." Those are the nicknames that Craig often calls him. So Craig taught him the word "nickname".
17) (May) Craig and Will are upstairs together while Craig's getting ready for work. While Craig is standing at the toilet to pee, Will comes over to see.
Will: Are you peeing, daddy?
Craig: Yes.
Will: That's a nice, big penis, daddy.
LOL - I about died when I heard this! :) And as an aside, I asked Craig first if he would mind me sharing this one and his response was "Of course not! Why would I mind if everyone thinks that of me?" Haha.
18) (May) At dinner time, I'm starting to get a little frazzled because Craig's out mowing the lawn, we're already getting a late start following a family bike ride, and both kids are getting impatient as I'm trying to get our meal on the table and answer the phone. Sophie's in her high chair fussing and squawking as she often does at dinner time and I say to her in a very exasperated tone "Come ooooonnn, Sophie! Give me a break! Just be quiet for a little bit. I'm hurrying!" Then Will says to me "Don't yell at Sophie, mommy. She doesn't like it when you yell. It makes her sad. She wants to be happy. So try to be nice, mommy." I can always count on Will to keep me in check. :) I apologized to both kids and changed my attitude.
19) (May) Same meal time. Now we're actually sitting down eating. Will says to me "Now remember, mommy, you're wearing underwear so you need to go pee in the potty. Don't pee in your underwear." Cracks me up. He's always giving me "now remember" pointers that I've previously said to him.
20) (May) I'm always trying to encourage Will to play pretend, use his imagination and tell stories. This morning before work, he's standing on the bathroom rug ("dry land") while he fishes with his paper fish and yard stick pole on the tile floor ("ocean"). He tells me "Now these fish are going to blast off into space.. and up into the sky they went. The guys are going to throw them really high up in the sky." I ask "What guys?" And he replies "the firemen." Well, okay then! A few days before, the bathroom rugs were pirate ships and Will was telling me everyone that was on his pirate ship and mine. I kept asking questions about what they were doing/eating/wearing.
21) (May) At breakfast on Saturday morning, Will asks me "Are we gonna' take your car or daddy's car to the library?" I say "my car". Will corrects me: "Actually, it's not a car. It's a Jeep. So don't call it a car, mommy... call it a Jeep." Craig is so proud.
22) (May) Playing with the toy kitchen right outside the bathroom while I'm giving Sophie a bath.
Will: I'm gonna' make you some food, mommy. (We just finished dinner.)
Me: Oooh! That sounds wonderful! What are you going to make me?
Will: Some BBQ strawberries... BBQ strawberry meatballs... and some applesauce. I'm gonna' BBQ, mommy. I'm a really good cooker.
Me: Mmm! That sounds delicious! (My mouth is watering - LOL.) I can't wait to try it!
Will is very pleased and hands me an (invisible) meatball to eat out of his hand a la Adam Sandler in The Wedding Singer. :)
23) (June) Lisa (our babysitter) goes in to get Will up from nap and asks "Is George Johnson in here?" (That's an imaginary person that causes all the mischief at Lisa's house.) :) Will says "No, it's Will!" Then as they're walking downstairs together, he turns to her and says "You're killin' me, Lisa." LOL
24) (June) Will asks me which of his new matchbox trucks he can take with him to the strawberry farm. I absentmindedly answer him, but I call them "cars". He gets a silly voice and says "They're not cars! You're just kiddin' me, mommy."
That's all for now!
1) (Apr) Looking at a book with Will, a character is looking through a monocular.

Will-isms Part 5
Here we go again! :)
1) (Feb) Will is coming up from the basement carrying his toy drum.
Me: "Really, buddy? Why did you feel the need to bring that up now?" (We have dinner guests.)
Will: "I'm going to take it into the living room so I can show everyone how to drum."
Logical enough I guess...
2) (Mar) Getting ready to go for a walk with the wagon. (It's sunny and beautiful out today!) Will asks "Is doggy going for a walk too?" I say "I don't know. Why don't you ask him?" So he goes to squat down beside Brutus and asks "Do you want to go for a walk, Brutus?... Yes?..." Then he turns to me and says "he does." Apparently Will can interpret dog language now and has elected himself as Brutus's personal representative. (By the way, Brutus made absolutely no response to the question. :)) Later on our walk with Will & Brutus both sitting in the wagon (Sophie was in the carrier), I hear him ask Brutus "Are you cold, Brutus?... No?" And then to me: "He's warm, mommy." And a few seconds later: "Do you think it's bumpy, Brutus?... Yes?..." And to me: "It's bumpy, mommy." LOL
On our walk we pass a friends house (a friend of my parents - Will doesn't know her well). She's outside and calls "hello" to us. I say hello back and Will asks "Who's that, mommy?" I say "That's Jean. Why don't you say hello to her?" He calls out "Hi Jean! I have a magazine Jean!" (He's carrying one of his beloved catalogs.) A little further down the road he says "Mommy, I like Jean."
We walk in the neighborhood so there's not a lot of traffic. But whenever a car goes by, Will tells me "Whoa! That was close!" So I use this opportunity to talk about traffic safety, staying away from the road and looking both ways.
3) (Mar) I go in to put Will back in bed after I find him laying on the floor by his door at night. I'm kind of OCD about his blankets being straight and folded just so when I tuck him in. So I walk around to the other side to straighten the covers and Will says "I like you, mommy." Sometimes that's a special change of pace from "love". I say "I like you too, Will. You're my favorite boy in the whole world."
4) (Mar) Will has gotten much better at using his manners. He says please much more frequently and, if he forgets, I simply say "that's not how you ask, buddy" and he'll rephrase it to "can I..." or "may I...yada, yada, yada... please?" Just this week, he has really improved his "you're welcome" usage and frequency too. It makes me smile when he responds "you're welcome, mommy" to my "thank you".
5) (Mar) At Lisa's house, Will comes up to Lisa to say "Charli hit William Dean Riedeman... but he's okay." I guess he speaks in the third person now? Craig says that means he's going to be a wide receiver. :)
6) (Mar) Another night of picking Will up off the floor and putting him back in bed. I kiss him and tell him I love him and he says "You're the nicest lady in the whole world, mommy."
7) (Mar) "I want to go to Great Grandma's house on Sunday." (Why Sunday? I don't know.)
8) (Mar) At bedtime, daddy asks Will "how many kisses do you want from daddy?" Will says "3". (That's their routine: 1 on each cheek and 1 on the forehead.) Then daddy asks "how many kisses do you want from mommy?" Will says "21"! I normally do a silly combo of eskimo, fish and butterfly kisses... but this time I followed Craig's lead and did 7 on each cheek and 7 on his forehead. Will was very pleased with this as proven by his cheesy grin.
9) (Mar) Will and I are reading Brown Bear, Brown Bear and I am encouraging him to fill in the parts he knows (which is most of it). When he stumbles, I fill in and then he finishes. Once when he paused, he was apparently just feeling thoughtful and said to me "don't talk for a little bit, okay mommy?" Then he "read" a little bit more and said "okay, now you can talk, mommy." :)
10) (Mar) Playing with his matchbox cars, Will says to me "thank you for the cars that daddy bought at the store, mommy... he's a really nice guy." Not sure why I received the thank you, but I made sure to pass it along to Craig. :)
11) (Mar) In the bath tub, Will and I are discussing his three bath tub trains that squirt water from their smokestacks (very fun). He has a blue one (Thomas), a green one (Percy) and a red one (Salty). He tells me "The red train is Salty, not James, mommy". (James is Will's favorite and both James and Salty are red.) I say "Oh really? How do you know? How can you tell them apart?" He said "James has a circle head". (He means "face".) I picked up Salty and noted his square face. I was floored! Did he really just make that differentiation? I kept saying "Wow, buddy! You're right!" And we talked about Thomas and Percy's round faces too. I later found out that Craig is the one that pointed out the round vs square faces to Will as a way to tell them apart. So, okay, Will didn't come up with that on his own... but he remembered it! Way to go, daddy, for teaching him to notice details!
12) (Mar) Will has started using the word "actually" and it's so funny because he sounds so mature. At lunch today, he was discussing hippos and rhinos and elephants and inquiring about where they live. I said we'd need to make a trip to the zoo soon and read about it. He was telling me that rhinos like to walk in the tall grass (do they?) and that "actually, giraffe live in the tall grass too!" It was so cute and funny to hear him make that transition with such a big word. Another time, after reading our standard two books at bedtime, I say "okay, it's time to say our prayers!" Will replies "Actually, we need to read the ant book first". (The Ants Go Marching) He cracks me up with this "actually" word!
13) (Mar) I'm feeling frustrated because Will woke up from nap after just an hour (his norm is usually two hours) and I didn't get much quiet time to myself. I immediately take him to the potty so we can switch back to underwear for the afternoon. (He's doing really great with this!) So we're both sitting in the bathroom waiting for him to pee and I'm telling him I really wished he would have slept longer today.
Will: (interrupting me cheerfully) "Listen mommy! I can hear my pee!"
Me: "I hear it too, buddy! I'm so proud of you!"
Will: "Thank you, mommy." (He is unfaltering with his manners these days.)
Then, after washing hands, getting underwear on and sticker on the chart, we walk out and he tells me "Remember... shhh! Sophie's still sleeping, mommy!" How can I be frustrated with this kid? He's being sweet as pie. He doesn't deserve my attitude, so I'll change it. At least I'm giving up free time to be with the cutest, little stinker on the planet.
14) (Mar) Craig's working out in the basement tonight and Will wants to go down to watch. He observes the P90X workout Craig is doing and says "You're really strong at push ups, daddy... You're so strong!... You're really strong and pull ups, daddy." Ha - I'm sure Craig was flattered to be admired by his boy. Craig's been jokingly showing Will how to do sit ups, push ups and leg press recently.
15) (Mar) Will's been allowed to watch and episode of Nick Jr TV tonight after bath. After I get Sophie to bed, I walk out as a new shoe (Backyardigans?) is starting. I say "Okay, buddy, time to turn it off. I want to play a new game with you before we read our bedtime books." Will says "No, mommy, you need to pause it!" Is it sad that this new generation of children is aware of the fact that it's possible to pause life TV??
16) (Feb/Mar?) Will is super interested in Lightning McQueen from the Cars movie today. He just keeps saying it, singing it and carrying around the toy. The funny part is how he says it... It keeps coming out "Light-mon Na-clean" or just "Light Ma-clean". Haha!
17) (Mar) Will's latest slogan (and response any time I question him about why he did something wrong) is "Because I did"... i.e.:
Me: "Why did you pee on the floor, Will?"
Will: "Because I did"
-or-
Me: "Why did you take all of Sophie's books off her shelf and leave them on the floor?"
Will: "Because I did"
Nice, huh? I don't think he's trying to be mouthy or rude, but it sure sounds like it!
18) (Mar) I love that Will makes connections between real life and something he's learned previously. For example, this morning, Will came upstairs while I was getting ready for work. We always have him sit on the potty first thing when he wakes up now. I was brushing my teeth so I said "Why don't you get your pants down and then I'll help you get on the potty?" He started to unbutton his jammy top so I said "No, buddy, you can leave the top on. Just pull off the bottoms." He looked at me thoughtfully and said "that's from Pajama Time, mommy?" At first I didn't know what he meant but then remembered the line from the Sandra Boynton book we've been reading: "Pull on the bottoms. Put on the top. We can all pajammy in whatever we've got. It's Pajama Time!" I praised his memory and praised him again after he peed on the potty. He told me he wanted to wear underwear so I asked him to go get them from his room. He did... along with the Pajama Time book. :) So we paused our morning routine to read it.
19) (Mar) "Hippty hippty hop, the mouse ran up the clock. The little dog laughed to see such a sight and the dish ran away with the spoon." LOL We're confusing nursery rhymes and Easter songs?
20) (Mar) While brushing his teeth before bed, Will pats his bottom and asks "Is this my butt, mommy?" I say "yes". He says "Daddy calls it my booty".
21) (Mar) Reading one of his favorite books "Down By the Station" (about a little train that collects all the baby animals at the zoo from their mommy and daddy and takes them to the children's zoo area), Will tells me that "the baby elephant is called a calf, just like a cow!" Again, making logical connections between things he knows. He's VERY good at all the baby animal names: calf, cub, joey, chick, foal, hatchling, etc.
22) (Mar) After he goes potty on Saturday mornings, Will occasionally gets to watch one episode of Dora while I feed Sophie and get breakfast ready. I'm reminding him of this by saying "we're only watching ONE Dora, okay?" He says "One episode, mommy?" Okay, so he knows the word episode AND he knows you can pause live TV... Sounds like a junky to me!
23) (Mar) Will has gotten pretty good at trying to redirect Sophie when she trys to play with one of his toys. He'll say something like "Come on, Sophie! (cheerfully) Let's go play with your music table!" Haha :) If that doesn't work, he'll say "No Sophie, go back to your room". And if that doesn't work, he'll tell me "Mommy, Sophie's tired. She wants to go to bed." LOL
24) (Mar) Getting diaper and jammies on for bed, Will says "Mommy, I have a hole in my butt!" I laughed pretty hard at that one and he didn't seem to get what was so funny.
25) (Mar) Craig is driving the kids over to Lisa's before work this morning. Will coughs a couple times and Craig asks him "What are you supposed to do when you cough? Where are you supposed to cough?" Will's response: "Supposed to cough in my elbow... not on the coffee table". Haha! Not sure where that came from or if he was really just making a cough/coffee connection. LOL
26) (Apr) Easter morning and Craig's calling Will to get dressed. Will is busy picking up some toys (a task I had just asked him to do) and tells this to Craig. Craig says to him "Why don't you come get dressed first and then you can finish picking up?" Will tells Craig again that he's going to pick up toys first and Craig says (a little more sternly) "No, you're going to get dressed first". In a very parent-like tone, Will says "Don't tell me no, daddy". :)
27) (Apr) At Great Grandma's house (for Easter), Will always enjoys playing with a little box of matchbox cars she keeps for the kids. One of the wheels falls off a car and Will is trying to put it back on. Papa is sitting beside him and asks "uh-oh, did it break buddy?" And Will says "Ya, Papa, I need a screwdriver". LOL
28) (Apr) Sophie's opening her basket from the Rethmans and Will simply can't sit back and watch. He's trying to grab some of her things and I tell him he needs to back up and let Sophie open her own basket because it's HER turn now. Will asks very sweetly "Can I share, mommy?" Haha! We've been talking a lot about sharing recently and usually it's in regards to Will's inability to share HIS toys with Sophie when she's interested in them. So it's funny that he thinks HE'S sharing HER belongings here.
29) (Apr) We removed Will's tie when he was going to eat a snack at Great Grandma's house. Then later when I wanted to take a picture, I handed Will his tie and asked him to please ask Nana if she would help him put it back on. Will took it to Nana and asked "Can you put my green scarf on, Nana?"
30) (Apr) Will has a little ritual of pointing to and spelling out the letters that say "Grand Cherokee" on the side of my Jeep before I load him into his car seat. He also likes to spell "Welcome" on the rug outside our porch. So as we were leaving grandma's on Easter, he spelled Grand Cherokee and then told me"This spells 'Welcome to our Car'!
31) (Apr) At dinner, Will had a rather unusual conversation with Craig:
Will: "You're a bad man, daddy." (He said it like 'baaaaad' as though he meant tough.)
Craig: "I'm a bad man?"
Will: "You're a dangerous man."
Craig: "Who told you that?"
Will: "Mommy."
I have never said anything of the sort. :)
32) (Apr) I'm getting dinner ready while Will works on a rhyming words game/puzzle. Each time he makes a match, he comes running into the kitchen and says "special delivery!", which comes out "special livery".
I also have one little Sophie-ism to report too... one of the first in her notebook. Upstairs one weekend morning after I finish nursing her and she's waiting for her daddy to pick her up to go downstairs. I won't name names (to protect the innocent) but somebody farted and, upon hearing it, Sophie immediately made a fart noise (like a raspberry) with her mouth! LOL :)

Will tells Craig again that he's going to pick up toys first and Craig says (a little more sternly) "No, you're going to get dressed first".
LOL :)

Will-isms Part 4
Almost two months has gone by since my last Will-isms post and the funnies never end with him...
1) (Jan) Will comes to tell me he NEEDS a new toy. So we go to his closet and he takes forever to choose his farm flash cards from way back when. I tell him to carry them to the living room to play with. He starts to do so, carrying the cards in his right hand but then stops in the doorway, turns to me and says "Wait. I need another new toy for my left hand."
2) (Jan) At Lisa's house, Will kept asking her "What do you think, Lisa?"... "Lisa, what do you think?" She had no idea why he was asking.
3) (Jan) Also at Lisa's house, Will came up and "knocked" on Lisa's behind. He said "knock, knock". She asked "who's there?" He said "William Dean Riedeman".
4) (Jan) Will was asking to go to Nana's school. She's taken him there a couple times when she goes to clean and he likes to play with the toys. He'll be going there this fall for preschool! Anyway, I tell him he has to be 3 years old and that that's after his next birthday. I also tell him he has to go potty on the big potty before he can go to school. He seemed to understand, so I asked him "so when are you going to Nana's school?" and he said "when I'm 3 numbers old".
5) (Jan) At dinner (a LOT of our funnies are at the dinner table), we're eating salads with chicken strips in them. He almost dropped some salad from his fork and said "WHOA! That was a close one!"
6) (Jan) At Lisa's house, her son Ryan couldn't see Will standing in the kitchen. Ryan asked Lisa "where's Will?" and Will pointed to himself and said "he's right HERE!"
7) (Jan) Will waits till after his bath, clean diaper and jammies to poop in his diaper. I change him and then let him run around pants and diaper-less while I dispose of the stinky diaper and wash my hands. Then I brush his teeth and do a couple things while he's still diaper-free. Brutus is standing in the bathroom with us and, though I didn't see this happen, Will said "No, doggy. Don't lick my junk!" I thought I hear him wrong so I said "what did you say?" and he said again "I said nooooo licking my junk, doggy!" I about died laughing.
8) (Jan) Loading him into his car seat in the morning, Will says to Craig (in the driver's seat) "no more spicy pickles daddy!" Craig had given him a Packo pickle the night before and I guess it was a little too spicy because his eyes got big and he had a "whoa!" look on his face and he said "I need my milk mommy!" So out of no where the next morning, he remembered and made a point to tell us no more. He'd been loving pickles lately, though.
9) (Feb) Pulling into the garage on the way home from Lisa's house, Will says to me "don't bump into daddy's screwdriver box, mommy!" Craig got a new Snap-On tool box which is kept on the complete opposite side of the garage and I was no where near it. :)
10) (Feb) Will is missing a puzzle piece (the letter Z) to his alphabet puzzle. Daddy and Will are hunting around for it and Will is saying "Zeeeee! Where are you Z?"
11) (Feb) Nana gave Will a Thomas the Train Pez dispenser for Valentine's Day. Will doesn't realize yet that Pez is candy. He holds up the packets of Pez and says to me "these are the batteries for Thomas, mommy."
12) (Feb) Will: "Where's Imagination Station?"
Craig: "Toledo"
Will: "Don't say Toledo, daddy. That's not funny." (Umm... okay... He's got a weird thing about telling Craig what not to say sometimes.)
13) (Feb) Sitting at dinner, totally random, Will says "Mommy, I'm not afraid of big dogs." Around that time (and still currently), he has an obsession with talking about things he's not afraid of, especially at bedtime. He'll ask me as I'm tucking him in "mommy, what I'm not afraid of?" He especially talks about a big, red elephant and dogs. Once he even woke up crying in the middle of the night and was talking about the big, red elephant. And sometimes at bedtime, he'll tell us to scare away the big, red elephant and the dogs. Will has a pair of socks that have a little, black bear on the sides. Craig once told him the bears on his socks will protect him and scare away the things he's afraid of. So last night, after Will completed his ritual of taking OFF his socks, he whined for Craig through the door to put his bear socks back ON. Hmm... I wonder what has spawned this sudden discussion of fear... especially with certain animals. He LOVES animals! And I have NO clue what the big, red elephant is from.
14) (Feb) Proof that Will is Craig's son: "Mommy, do you want to make me some food, mommy?" Hehe. Notice he put "mommy" before AND after the sentence. He does that a lot and I love it.
15) (Feb) At dinner, I tell Will I have a special dessert for him when he finishes eating. He asks me what it is and I tell him it's a rice krispy treat. He eats a little more and then says "okay, I'm ready for my rice Christmas tree". :)
16) (Feb) Randomly at dinner, Will says "I'm the coolest boy in the jungle". (Diego reference?)
17) (Feb) Lately Will pronounces his sister's name "SO-phi-a" instead of "So-PHI-a" (he puts the stress on the 'SO' and then the 'phia' follows quicker and softer).
18) (Feb) I've been doing a lot of little learning activities with Will lately. For some reason he has trouble with this word (it's rare for him to stumble on a word anymore) and asks to do an "ah-tin-i-tee". One of our games is playing with buttons, which he calls "buddons". I love that he's separating the "big buddons" from the "baby buddons".
19) (Feb) At bedtime, I hear Will singing to himself in his room. He sings the "Rescue Pack" song from Diego, the Dora theme song, Nana's "Days of the Week" song, and then starts counting in Spanish. I tried getting the video camera by his door so I could record it. You can hear him, but I'm basically just filming the door. :)
20) (Feb) At Nana's house, Will wakes up from his nap and walks to the balcony to see the three baby girls playing in the living room below. He says in a very sing-song voice "I SEE you, Sophia! I'm coming to GET you! You're my SISTER!" :)
If you have a little one at home, I really encourage you to jot down their words, pronunciations and slogans! It is SO fun to look back on these!
