Quick preface to this post: my camera went kaput last week. Won't even turn on. Tested the batteries... did some troubleshooting on an online Canon forum... called Canon's tech support. It's determined that it's a problem with the body and may cost $200+ to repair. We've been in the market for a new camera for over a year now anyway, so I guess there's no time like the present! Our 5 1/2 year old Rebel XT has served us very well.
So!
Not sure how long of a lag time we will have before actually making the purchase... The camera body and lens we have been planning to buy are quite a big step up from our current so we want to make sure we do this right.
Meanwhile, I am taking pictures with our little Nikon Coolpix. It's a decent little camera but the pictures look like junk compared to what I'm used to. Ah well. I'm very grateful to have a back up at all.
We made a bit of a deal out of Groundhog Day this year. :) Nothing too fancy, but just a few fun ideas. We actually borrowed a lot of Groundhog Day books from the library that we enjoyed.

I saw this idea on Pinterest (courtesy of my sister's entire board dedicated to the holiday - haha!) and thought it was cute and easy. The only touching up I had to do was to Will's narrow footprint (on the right) that made his groundhog look anorexic. ;) So I filled him out a little with my pinky finger and some extra brown paint. The groundhogs are coming up out of the ground (green "handprint" grass) if you can't tell. :) And my little steel-trap-memory-Will read this poem twice and had it memorized... so it was sung over and over and over (to the tune of "I'm a Little Teapot") on Groundhog Day.
Okay... these look a little creepier with my flash then they do in person. ;) I was so excited with how cute they turned out... until Craig came walking by and said they looked like Ewoks wearing coconut bikinis! HAHAHA! Anyway, the idea is from Family Fun and I made Weelicious's vanilla cupcake recipe to start with. Her recipe is actually for mini's but I knew if I scrolled the comments, someone would have inquired about how to change the bake time for regular size cupcakes. And sure enough, you just tack on an extra 5-10 minutes. But I think I'll keep my day job. ;)
See! This is why I need a professional photographer to just live permanently at my house and capture the actual moments for real. The kids were sooooo excited about the cupcakes. I showed them to them in the morning before we all left for the day and they couldn't wait for dinner. And they even got equally excited again when I pulled them out for dinner. (Actually, we left them setting on the table for decoration while we ate.)But!... Then when I ask them to smile for me to take a picture with their cupcake, I get this:

Thanks, guys. Real enthusiastic... and slightly scared (Soph).Oh well, the real memories I have are good.
After dinner and before bath, we did some shadow play on the wall using daddy's big work light.
