{Week of August 11-17}
CSA bag #11, picked up on August 7th:
Contents: 4 ears of sweet corn, a pint of orange cherry tomatoes, 3 odd looking peppers?, a zucchini, an heirloom orange tomato, an eggplant, 2 onion, several potatoes, 3 cucumber, a bag of green beans, a bunch of basil, and 5 more peppers (sweet banana).
This was also a bread week and it was a great selection this week! The slicing loaf was a cranberry orange cinnamon variety. Plus we had a fancy looking spelt bolle' made with herbs d'Provence and a garlic and dill focaccia! Yum!!
Fruit this week were peaches!
For dinner, using our kale from the previous week, I made kale and cannellini soup from Bon Appetit. I made it last year and loved it again as much. On the side we had some of our focaccia, sliced cheese, some veggies and some sliced nectarine.
With our peaches I tried out the yummy peach cupcakes with brown sugar frosting from Smitten Kitchen.
Also on the menu this week:
1) chicken breasts with tomato herb pan sauce using our orange cherry tomatoes plus some reds from the garden - this is such a wonderfully easy, summer time recipe... not to mention delicious
2) fresh salsa from our garden veggies and taco night - we tried crunchy shells for a change and the kids LOVED them!
