We have borrowed this book three times now from the library. It's a fast favorite. I just love the title, but Will has loved reading it repeatedly every time we borrow it. Inside, there is a letter on each page that is surrounded by several peas. Each pea is busy doing some sort of activity that begins with that respective letter. For example, A is for astronaut and S is for scientist.
So for this story stretcher, we made our own pea pages with the first letter of the kids' names.
I had the letters pre-cut from construction paper and then we glued them down and put green thumbprints all around for our peas. Of course, for Sophie, this was a very hands-on task for me so I didn't get any pictures of her at work. But Will could do it on his own so I was able to snap a few of him. He sort of rolled and dragged his thumb with each one, so they look a little bit oval.
Then Will and I (& Craig) put our heads together to come up with some other "W" and "S" activities (different from the book) that our peas could be doing. Don't laugh - some things were very difficult to draw... especially with Will's ovals. Poor Craig had a heck of a time with the "wrestlers". He said "It looks like these spiders are about to attack each other!" Haha! But this is essentially what each page looks like in the book.
