Women's Distance Festival

Hooray! I improved!

I'm really proud of my 5K run at the Women's Distance Festival on Saturday morning at Pearson Park. Out of maybe 35-40 women present, I finished 8th! There were even high school CC teams there running. Whaaa? It must have been a strange fluke because I really don't think my time was that competitive! But still, it was an improvement for me and I'm excited.

So quick recap:
At the Dart Frog Dash (5K) on May 16th, I ran a 24:36.
Then, at the Genoa Homecoming 5K on June 5th, I got worse with a 25:02. :(

But yesterday I finished at 23:56! Woot! Woot! My mile splits were: 7:07 (Whoa! A little overzealous? But I didn't even know I could still run a 7 min mile!), 7:49, and 8:07. So, not real consistent, eh? I could stand to work on some more strategic training instead of just going out for a plain ole' run, I guess. My brother in law has talked about doing some fartleks (speed training) and hill training as a means of improvement. So maybe I'll work on that.

Next up: Pemberville 5-miler this coming Friday (the 20th). This is what we've been training for! Hope I can hang!

You and Wes enjoy those "fartleks"! I think I'll hang out on my couch eating chips. LOL

That is a GREAT run!! You are really making me get the itch to run an actual race, but I have a loooooong way to go in the training dept. I've always wanted to do a mini-triathlon. Have you ever??

P.S. Totally forgot about fartleks. I love that word!
