That's what Will told Craig when he came to the bottom of our steps one morning dressed like this:
I've been pleasantly surprised that my 3 year old hasn't had (or cared for) much opinion in his daily dressing until recently...He still doesn't put up too much fight when I politely disagree, but the past couple weeks have brought several days where he's randomly dressed himself in questionable attire.
This day he chose:
the Ohio State jersey (a boy after Craig's own heart) - the shirt always manages to get tucked into his pants and sometimes underwear when he's pulling up the pants
sweatpants - in 80+ degree heat mind you (for some reason he's always choosing pants!)
safety goggles... upside down - protective eye wear is key, you know
I guess it could be worse.
I read a suggestion somewhere of letting your child pick out one part of the outfit (top or bottom) to give them some feeling of control, and then mom or dad chooses a coordinating piece to go with. Seems like a very workable compromise to me! But he doesn't do this that often, yet...
What do you do when your littles want to dress themselves?
Are you one of the cool moms that always just allow it?
I would love to just let go and be that person... but I can't. Especially if it's not weather appropriate (see above).
But I am willing to meet in the middle with that suggestion I read. I wouldn't want someone else choosing what I wear all the time either!

Mia has insisted on dresses/skirts for... mmm, probably the better part of the last year. We have a few rules:
1. She must wear her uniform to preschool. (We did compromise by getting skirts for her, rather than just the shorts we started off with. She much prefers skirts.)
2. She can wear her big poofy "princess dresses" as much as she wants around the house, but they must come off if we go somewhere.
3. In winter, she must wear a jacket over her dress, and tights underneath.
4. In summer, she must wear a skirt underneath. (One of those skirts with built-in shorts, so her underwear doesn't show. Not an issue in winter, with the tights.)
And I also hide dresses that are too small, ugly, etc. So all that's in her closet are dresses that I'm OK with her choosing.
We also let her pick out her shoes. She hates sneakers, but we've found nice mary jane style shoes at Stride Rite that are as sturdy as sneakers, so she's not sliding all over the playground in fancy dress shoes.
It makes me so sad that she has all these cute shirts that she refuses to wear, but what can ya do.
Carson is no picky in the least-luckily. But he does request "cozy" pants whenever he has the opportunity. My rule is he can wear them as much as he wants at home, but when it is hot out, he has to wear shorts. In which case, he'll usually choose some comfy cotton ones like the old navy ones Will has lots of. He's so cute!
