My Domestic To-Do List

I love to cook. I don't (usually) hate cleaning or doing laundry - I just don't feel like there are enough hours in the day. And I love my role as wife and mother.
But there are definitely more "domestic" skills I'd like to tap into.
Here is a brief list off the top of my head:
1. Learn to sew
(Time frame: who knows?)
I'm not just talking buttons and hems. I want to learn how to make stuff. Currently, Craig is the seamstress in this house and mends all the items that need repair. An as an aside... his favorite thing to sew buttons on with is dental floss. :)
I don't need to become a regular Martha Stewart, but I'd like to learn the basics to get a little more crafty when I want to.

2. Start a vegetable and herb garden
(Time frame: next spring/summer)
I've talked about this a lot lately and I am SUPER motivated to do it. Things I am most looking forward to having at my fingertips: basil, cilantro, parsley, rosemary, thyme, tomatoes, bell peppers, cucumbers, zucchini, hot peppers, green beans, etc. Maybe I'll start with just a few things though... :)

3. Green Clean!
(Time frame: sometime in the next year)
I have this really great book that my boss recommended called The Naturally Clean Home.
I've owned it for awhile, but just haven't managed to get my butt in gear and try it! I've read through - it's organized well for an easy read with lots of tips and recipes - and am so intrigued with how easy and affordable it can be to clean our home with safe and yummy smelling, homemade products. My boss shared some of her favorite essential oils that are good starters to create a bunch of basic cleaners, including tea tree oil, lavender, eucalyptus, etc. It just sounds so wholesome and fresh.
I wonder if our cleaning person would object? She only comes once monthly so we still do a lot of the routine stuff. But if we could arrange to have little or no harmful household cleaners, I would be ecstatic.
4. Decorate
(Time frame: ASAP, though sporadic based on what we can afford)
If you read my home post this past weekend, you already know many of the things that are high on our priority list. I've been scouring magazines and blogs lately for ideas. The thing is: I know what I like when I see it, but I probably couldn't dream it up on my own. I'm not good with visualizing before I see it for real and I can't just look at a space and know how to fill it or decorate it. But I'm learning and I'm interested so look for some more home decor posts over the next year as they come up.
