I look at these pictures and instantly think of that Craig Morgan song about "the son of a third-generation farmer" and "hoggin' up the road in my p-p-p-p-plower". You know the one?
As you know, we're surrounded by fields. Well, we happen to know the farmers that farm the land around our house. So this is Bert Oriens and she is a friend of my parents (and Craig's too, I think?). On more than one occasion, Bert has offered to take Will out for a ride on the tractor sometime while she's working since she knows he watches in awe every time she or her husband are here.
When we returned from the race on Saturday morning, we saw Bert out plowing the fields and waved to her. She immediately came over and hopped out. Will was super excited to see her and get this opportunity!
I trusted Bert completely. She was so good with him and I could see her explaining (once they were inside) that when she started moving, it might be a little jerky. So she had her hand on the back of his head to get started. She stepped back here to let me get a photo op.
Can you see his elated smile?
Will rode on the bench behind her and later on her lap on the way back.
Bert took Will for one long pass up and down the field and told him about the crops and the tractor. He came back talking about corn and beans and Case tractors. :)
Lucky boy. It was the highlight of his day!
