What We're Reading

A couple more "first day of school" books:
1. Amelia Bedelia's First Day of School by Herman Parish.
2. First Day of School by Mercer Mayer.
3 & 4. A couple more Henry and Mudge books - the 2nd and 3rd in their series. Will loves these and I know he'll appreciate the ones specific to early readers. These are a level or two above him, so I mostly read them to him. But he likes to play "word hunt" where I'll ask him to find a word on the page. There's usually about 4 lines and maybe 20-25 words per page for him to search through. But, for example, I'll ask him to look for the word "big" or "dog" or "food", etc. and he does a very good job with this.

5. Another Tana Hoban book called I Wonder. It's about the things you see on a nature walk.
6. Mrs. Mack by Patricia Polacco. Cute story about a girl learning to ride horses but we haven't made it all the way through this book in one sitting yet because it's sooo long!
See?
7 & 8. Uh oh. Will's discovered the Dora & Diego section at the library. These were read over and over for the first several days. Diego's Egyptian Expedition and Dora at the Carnival.

9. Cracks me up that he always picks the simplest baby/toddler board books (usually about farm animals) to bring home. But on the bright side, it's a good early reader book and he can sound out most of the words. Hurry! Hurry! by Eve Bunting is about a new baby chick being born and all the farm animals rush to meet him. I love that the chick says "I'm here! I'm here!" when he cracks out of the egg. :)
10. When We're Together by Claire Freedman. A sweet book about being together with family and friends and the fun times that can be had.
11. A Mother's Song by Janet Lawler. As you might imagine, I selected this one to borrow because I liked the illustrations and it just looked sweet. What might surprise you (as it did me) is that this was one of Will's most requested books! Just a really sweet book about a mother and her child and the fun memories they make. The book is poetic, but not really a "song" as the title implies.
P.S. - Someday, before summer is over, Will (and maybe Sophie if she's up for it) and I plan to sit on the porch during a rain shower and "feel summer showers fall cool on our toes". :) Doesn't that just look fun?
