I guess what we missed out on with that "12-16 inches" snow prediction last week has gradually continued to hit us this weekend. The snow just keeps on coming!
On Saturday morning, Will and I ventured out to the library while Sophie took an unusual morning nap to accommodate our afternoon plans. When we returned home, the weather was still pretty uneventful. We did find it pretty cool that the freezing rain that came last week had hardened the drifts beside our driveway so that we could stand right on top of them! This pic is pretty crappy, but can you tell that he's standing over a foot off the ground on that drift?
Not long after we pulled in the driveway, it started to snow... hard. And I would estimate we got about 3-4" in 45 minutes.
We'd made plans with our friends awhile back to go ice skating at Tam-o-shanter in Sylvania on this day and didn't want to give up our friend's weekend off. So we braved the elements and headed out there around 11:30 a.m.
It's a bit of a drive for us and you have to look up their open skate times in advance because they're minimal, but the prices are reasonable and we really wanted to try it. This weekend's open skate times were from 1-2:20 on Saturday and Sunday. We only skated for about 40 minutes, I think?
Addison and Will holding hands (randomly) on the way down the stairs inside the complex. :)
Angie is a long-time friend of mine and her daughter, Addison, is two years older than Will. Aren't they so cute together?
Craig and his best friend, Jason, lace up their skates.
Getting ready to head into the rink.
Addison is SO good at smiling for the camera! (And doesn't she look like she's about to model some children's ski apparel?) She needs to give my pouty kids some lessons!
We planned to get Will some skates and just have Craig carry Sophie around a couple times. I think we tried on three pair before finding ones that fit him! These were not it. He ended up with a pair that looked like Addison's.
The Balduf family takes to the rink for the first time.
Craig takes Will out for his first time on the ice.
Extremely wobbly. :)
Soph and I stayed outside the rink for a bit until Craig came back to carry her. I can stay on my feet, but there's no way I feel comfortable enough to skate with her.I tried to take a pic of us and accidentally had it zoomed in too far. But I love, LOVE this one of Sophie!

Sophie's turn!
When Craig took Soph out, Will and I went out too. I sure felt awkward trying to lead him. I can't skate backwards and he was basically just walking or letting me pull him.
Taking a break to re-lace.

Sophie and I walked around the outside of the rink and watched the other skaters.
This is the only pic of Will and I through the glare of the glass. When I skated behind him, he would often let himself slide way out forward and I'd have to pull him back to a stand. Angie and I were both complaining of sore backs after this!
Sophie with her daddy.
Another overly zoomed shot taken by me. Oops!
Will got fed up and just wanted to go eat lunch, so Jason and Angie graciously took Will and Addison out to get their skates returned while Craig and I skated around a few more times with Sophie. Skating really is fun. I'd like to come back when our girl is old enough to give it a shot. I think she'll be a little more determined to try it.

Love this one.
I think she was chilly or just tired (it WAS nap time!) 'cause she started snuggling into his shoulder. So we called it a day and headed out to pick up our shoes and get some lunch.
It was pretty chilly in there! By the time we quit, the kids had pink noses and cheeks.
I think Will got frustrated with his lack of skill right away and wanted to be carried most of the time.
