In a smoothie????
Hey, don't knock it till you try it! :)I first saw this in Family Fun magazine and then again on my friend Kelly's blog after she made it for her non-avocado-loving son, Brody. My reason for trying it was the same as hers. My daughter eats avocado and likes it... My son always seems curious but refuses it or claims he doesn't like it when offered.
I was hesitant at first, which is funny because it took me no time at all to get over the idea that avocados are only served with salty Mexican food when I started making baby food for my children. They are loaded with lots of healthy nutrients and have a creamy, smooth texture making them a perfect pairing with banana or yogurt. So I'm not sure why the idea of a smoothie just seemed strange to me.
But!
I made it... and I tried it... and it's good!
And the kids BOTH liked it too. Hooray!
Avocados are a very rich and creamy tasting fruit... so the smoothie tasted like a rich and creamy milkshake.
I highly recommend you try it.
I also plan to start recommending this to my pregnant patients for a yummy dose of folic acid.
Avocado Smoothie:
1 avocado, peeled and pitted
1 cup milk (I used whole)
1 cup of ice cubes
2 tbsp sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla
In a blender, combine all ingredients and blend until smooth. Yields 3 servings.
