Good Advice

"Do what you can,
with what you have,
where you are."
I pass a church on my way to work that has a new message on their sign out front every week or so. They're always pretty insightful and this one really spoke to me. I'm looking at it from the perspective of a busy, working mom and wife and always trying to stay on top of everything. It can be exhausting day in and day out and it's easy to beat yourself up about not accomplishing superhuman amounts of work/tasks/activities.
In our highly competitive world, people often put too many expectations on themselves (whether real or imagined). As generations go by, we are more and more fast paced and stressed out. I can't think of where, but I recently read some articles in a couple magazines about a "slow down movement" and people/families making changes in lifestyle to fight against the always busy, crazy-making lifestyle.
The most important thing to me is that my family is healthy and know that they're loved and cared for. I'm trying to remember that checking off my to-do list is far less important than quality time with them. Sometimes it's more important to just step back and be still.

I need to find a cute wall hanging of this and put it in my house where I will see it every day. I'm definitely guilty of not "stopping to smell the roses" often enough!
