{Week of August 27 - September 2}
This is going to be a smaller post in terms of pictures because it was a pretty simple week.
Vegetable share from August 23rd:
Contents: 4 ears sweet corn, 1# green and yellow beans, 1 zucchini, 1 bunch basil, 1 onion, 2 potatoes, assortment of tomatoes (those green things in the bag are tomatoes too), 1 cucumber, 3 colored bell peppers.
Have you ever seen a purple bell pepper?? I hadn't! The inside is white.
Our farmers use a variety of heirloom tomatoes from seed. Seed saving and passing down is much less common and many varieties of tomatoes are endangered of nonexistence if not for the community of farmers that refuse to let them go. When I get more experience with gardening, I'd really like to explore more options with how my plants begin and look into different varieties. This year, I was just like "It's a tomato? Okay, good, I'll take it." ;-)
We had dinner at my parent's house on August 28th and I brought along Weelicious's Tomato Bread Salad. It's a perfect recipe for this time of year with its ingredient list of tomatoes (duh), cucumber, sweet corn, red onion and basil. And, of course, any time you combine tomatoes with balsamic vinegar and oil, you absolutely cannot go wrong. I omitted the olives though.
Yum. My sister especially liked this salad.
