Northwest Ohio Railroad Preservation, Inc. is basically a small museum of trains artifacts and souvenirs in Findlay, Ohio. It was on my to-do list over a year ago to visit because I thought Will would dig all the train stuff and it would be fun to take a ride on their mini steam train. On
their web page, they list various events that are held here each season and last weekend, the "Tracks to the Past" day caught my eye. It was held the weekend of September 10
th & 11
th. They had steam train rides as usual as well as lots of other things on display: military vehicles, fire trucks, TONS of tractors (big and small), a kiddie tractor pull, some old-fashioned trades such as rope-making and
blacksmithing and wood carving, model train sets, an old caboose, etc. I decided to take the kids for a visit once the
forecasted rain seemed to be holding off for awhile.

Papa has a Massey Ferguson so Will is particularly fond of these. Both kids liked sitting on all the different little tractors.

There were even llamas there! And, no, Will did not wet his pants. One of the tractors had some rain water (probably from earlier that morning) puddled in the seat when he sat on it.

Inside the "museum", there were lots of old-fashioned train artifacts on display from long ago. We bought our tickets ($1-2 each) here for the mini steam train ride and Will checked out the train toys available for purchase as well as the model train sets.

My photographer took this while we were waiting for our turn on the train. Sophie was getting sleepy.

All aboard!!!

This is on display out in the yard. I believe it's an old ticket station.

More train displays that we saw on our ride.

Larry, our train conductor, was super funny and nice. He showed Will his pocket watch, which helped him keep the train on schedule. Will liked watching the engineer shovel coal into the steam engine.

In front of that old station building, there was a huge mound of sand with lots of digger toys all over it for the kids to play in. We only did this for a short time.

The old, cute, red caboose.

Sophie looks bigger than Will here!

We skipped the tractor pull because that appeared to take awhile. So we quickly ate a packed lunch and headed home for nap.

It's a cute set up there and very inexpensive to visit (not including gas from an hour away) but it's a little far for what it is. I originally thought maybe we'd come back to check out there
North Pole Express around the Christmas season, but again, the
drive is kind of long for what it is. If you lived closer to Findlay, though, this would be a worthwhile visit for a train enthusiast.
