Sunday

{April 10, 2011}

This was one of those days where we spent most of our time outdoors. The weather was sunny and warm (though pretty windy) and it just felt good to get out and play. Craig likes to throw open all the garage doors (there's even a big door in back which is convenient and makes for nice ventilation) and clean everything out several times a year. So we had the lawn mower and snow blower out and running to get their engines moving again, all the bikes and kid toys were out and played with, the work bench and tool chests were rearranged for better organization and the garage floor got swept out. With all the moisture we've had recently, it looked like our garage floor had just been hosed down because everything was just so damp in there. So the breeze and the "wipe down" that all of Craig's precious tools got should keep things from rusting. P.S. - I think it may be time to get rid of the jogger/all-terrain stroller... it's just not used anymore and it's taking up too much space that would be better suited for the bike trailer now.

The back view of our house and garage. Look how wet the garage floor is! Our deck needs some TLC and paint/stain. And do you see that patch of ground with the wood border? That's supposed to be my garden... I have done nothing so far. Am I behind? Because a co-worker of mine says her minimal garden (which is all I'm aspiring to maintain this year) isn't going to be planted until about mid-May... Will helped daddy blow dust and saw dust out/off of things using the air compressor hose. :) He thought that was so cool.

I got the bike trailer down from the rafters of the garage and the kids and I took a first ever bike ride with Will on his own bike and Sophie in the trailer. This was so fun! It was a big deal for Will and he did very well following instructions and riding safely. And oh my! For not being the biggest fan last year, Sophie has had a complete turn around this year in her love of the bike trailer. She was very content riding and she wanted to put the helmet right back on and climb in as soon as we got home. She was happy to just sit in it parked in the driveway when we weren't riding and kept telling me to "buckle it" (her helmet and the straps inside the trailer). :)

It helps that both kids helmets seem to fit them better this year too.

Off we go! I love Will's expression. :)
As the day went on, it got warmer and warmer and we continued to drop layers of clothing. Following nap, the kids had changed entirely into cotton shorts and tank tops as temperatures reached 80+ degrees. (Funny: as I type this, it's currently upper 30's and snowing!)

They played on the swings and slide toy, made a mess with the bubbles and sidewalk chalk, and finally I realized that it was getting late for lunch. Craig got out the picnic table and I brought lunch outside.

Then after a nice nap... Sophie and I got out for another bike trailer ride while Will and daddy mowed the lawn. Brutus always wants to rides too (he's right there trying to jump in as I load her up) and sits right beside Sophie very still and pleasant.
I think wind is my least favorite weather element... even though I know it often blows in the warmer temperatures this time of year. I just really dislike it, especially in such a vulnerable position amidst open fields.

But I am looking forward to more of these "summer" days outdoors.
