Random Thoughts For Today

Ready for some super random thoughts that I've had today?

1) I love my job. I love that I work with babies and kids. I love that I work with pregnant and breastfeeding women. I love that I get to talk about food all day and that, with the exception of some mentally stressful cases that I worry about, I go home at the end of my work day and my job is DONE. I love the job security I'm blessed with (WIC's not going anywhere in this economy!) and the health benefits package that our family is lucky enough to share.

2) How long do you use a baby monitor? I turn mine on by my bedside (the base is in Sophie's room) every night and keep the volume very low. I can pretty much hear the kids through the floor if they cry, so it's not really necessary. I remember when we transferred Will to his new room that I wondered if I would want two monitors just because he was no longer in a crib and I'd probably want to know what he was up to. We kept it in his room for awhile until Sophie slept regularly in her crib at night and since then he hasn't had one. Hmm... we could probably get rid of it now.

3) I am really craving warm chicken salad sandwiches. I think I'll add that to the menu this week - we DO have a void to fill on Thursday or Friday.

4) My clothing style has really changed since my second child was born. During my second pregnancy, I opted for way more solid (usually dark), long-sleeve, maternity t-shirts that were dressy enough for work but casual enough for home. And now, I don't know why, but I just prefer a much simpler style. Solid colors instead of prints (they just seem more timeless and less trendy - Craig is very pleased about this - he teased me all the time about clothes with a print), layers whenever possible, cute accessories to dress it up, and I'm LOVING the latest trend of embellishments on tops and frillier (but not obnoxious), girlier details. I think part of it is that now with kids and all the pictures we take, I prefer to let them stand out while I sort of blend into the background. Plus solid colors are much easier to coordinate with my kids' outfits when necessary.

5) I should really learn to be better at grilling. Scratch that. Craig should really learn to be better at grilling.

6) Every time I get in my car at the end of a work day these past couple weeks and my temperature gauge says over 100 degrees, I am instantly sad for the poor children and animals that you hear about getting left in vehicles... and often fatally. I don't why, but that is my first thought every time. Morbid, I know.

7) Lately I have been peeing a ton. I'm trying to drink more water like I used to during pregnancy because it occurred to me that maybe I should give my body the same respect and special focus JUST BECAUSE even when I'm not "with child". But I have to say: I am seriously annoyed by how often I have to pee as a result. Kinda' like how I feel when I have a cold and it sets me back from the normal, busy life that I feel accustomed to. I just get irritated when I have to stop whatever I'm doing to go pee all the time. I know. There are much worse things to complain about and I should just shut up. ;)

8) Things I am thankful for today: my family, my health and the health of my family, my job, beautiful weather, my camera, yummy recipe inspirations for next week.

Hope you all had a great Wednesday!

I wonder about the baby monitor issue too...our upstairs is so small I can hear Logan from our bedroom, and I'll be able to hear the baby too. But I worry when I'm downstairs...or in the basement!
