What We're Reading This Week...

Following a trip to the farmer's market on Saturday morning, Will and I made our weekly return to the library. They have such a pretty sitting area just outside the main entrance with benches and flowers and lots of shade.

Inside, I usually grab the books I've requested or held online first and then Will usually finds a few books or a magazine to look at and makes himself comfortable here while I pull the books from our list.
Then, at checkout, Will helps me locate the bar code on each book and scan it under the red light. I love the express check out!
We held onto a few books from last week (The Umbrella, Shapes and Reflections, the phonics reader) and returned everything else. And I requested several books to go along with our Tot School lesson, which I will post about later. So here are just a couple extras that Will helped me select from the display shelves.
1) Did My Mother Do That? - by Sharon Holt. I encourage you to drop whatever you're doing and go request this book from your library. It is SO SWEET! It's about a little girl who's mother has to be out of the house one evening at bedtime and so her daddy is going to tell her a story about when she was a baby. The little girl asks all sorts of questions first such as "Did my mother hatch me from an egg?"... and other animal mother behaviors. They go through several silly questions about behaviors that human mommies wouldn't do and then in the end he tells the little girl how, when she was born, her mommy held her against her chest and cried happy tears. He tells her that mommy and daddy were so happy she was born and loved her so much. I got teary reading it. It was just so sweet. And Will loved it too.
2) When the Leaf Blew In - by Steve Metzger. Will selected this one and it's a cute story of how a leaf blowing into the barn sets off a chain reaction of events among the animals. Because this happened, that happened and because that happened, this happened. A cute read.
Lots more books to follow in our Tot School post...
