Snow Day!

Why are snow days SO exciting?

Sometimes it feels like I am the only NON-teacher in my family and everyone else gets to stay cozy in their jammies every time we get more than an inch of snow or a slight fog. But if I'm lucky... about once a year, we will get a snow storm that puts Lucas County at a Level 3 snow "emergency" and then my clinic closes. (Yet another reason I'm grateful to work in an outpatient building... 'cause my official employer - Toledo Hospital - certainly never closes.) This snow storm was hyped up so big, in fact, that the building supervisors closed up at 2:30 pm on Tuesday and cancelled all clinics for Wednesday on Tuesday night! That never happens! I feel lucky they made that decision when they did because, in the end, Lucas County only ever made it to a Level 2 and the roads weren't really that bad.
So Tuesday afternoon, I picked the kids up early. We got a little extra play time and I got to make dinner at a slightly more leisurely pace. One of Will's new favorite activities (which daddy invented for weekend mornings) is to dump out 4-6 puzzles into a pile of pieces and then put them all back together. He LOVES it! We've gone through every puzzle he owns about 10 times in the last few days.
He only has the two jigsaw puzzles from Christmas and a bunch of other chunky puzzles from last year that he has really outgrown. They still entertain him, but we need to invest in some more advanced puzzles... and possible get another puzzle rack. His is overflowing.
Please excuse the laundry on the table (above). We'd just gotten the Old Navy shorts I ordered for this summer - he lives in those cut-off sweat shorts most of the time and they were on sale for $4!
We've been hearing and seeing tons of snow mobiles and snow plows and Will loves to watch them go by.

Wednesday morning, during Sophie's first nap, Will and I ventured out into the snow.
Craig plowed on Tuesday night so the driveway was mostly clear except for a few drifts.
A view from the deck.
All bundled up.
Once again, the white stuff was still too powdery to form balls or build a snowman.
Here's a picture of the drift we are almost guaranteed to get every time it snows just because of the way the wind blows between the house and garage. Today, Will and I made a game of jumping from the steps (far left in the picture) into the drift. :)
It was pretty windy out today so I didn't take many more pictures. The viewfinder was getting wet from my gloves so I just took the camera inside. It was nice to have an unexpected day home with the kids, but it would have been a lot more fun if Craig could have stayed home with us. It's just not the same without him.
Other fun things we did today:
1) I got to try my hand at stuffed French toast for breakfast.
2) Will learned how to play Red Light, Green Light where he danced around the living room when I said "green light" and turned my back to him, but then had to freeze when I turned back around and yelled "red light"!
3) We all took a nap at nap time! Well... okay, that's really only fun for mommy. :)
4) Today is Uncle Dub's 27th birthday! Happy Birthday Wes! So in the evening, we all met up at BW3's for dinner.
