Part 3 of Will's and my busy day on Saturday was a surprise I'd booked for us a month or so ago, not realizing how many other things would come up between then and now to make this day so busy. :)
Click, Clack, Moo: Cow's That Type.
You've heard of the book, right? Of course you have.
And if not, I highly recommend you check it out. It's really cute and funny.
The historic Valentine Theatre in downtown Toledo was hosting a children's musical based on the book as part of their children/family series this year. And I just knew Will would love that!
Poor kid had fallen asleep on the way to the theatre and I had to wake him to go in, but he stayed awake and engaged in the whole performance. Never once did I have to ask him to sit still or be quiet. He sat on my lap so he could see over some heads and it was really nice, just the two of us. (Note wardrobe change... haha!)
The more-than-a-century-old theatre underwent a major renovation a little over a decade ago and was unveiled again in 1999. The whole place is very elegant. Because it was a children's show in the afternoon in such a distinguished theatre, the dress code was all over the board. About half were pretty casual (like us) and half got their kids all dressed up. It was fun to see all the kids getting a cultural experience in such a renowned venue in the city.
The seats were packed by the time the show started. This picture is terribly dark, but the inside of the theatre is cool. And there really isn't a bad seat in the house!
We read through the book while we waited for the performance to begin.
I didn't take pictures during because no one else was and I wasn't sure if flash photography was accepted, but I snapped this one at the end without the flash. The whole performance was very funny and entertaining.
After the show, Will got to meet some of the cast members and chat with them.
Talking to "Farmer Brown".
Our tickets.

This musical was the last on the season's schedule and our audience was given the "inside/early scoop" on next season's performances. They don't start until early 2012 and there's definitely one I'm thinking of taking Sophie to. We just received and read the original Fancy Nancy book in hardcover for a belated birthday gift for Sophie and thought it was so cute. Well in February, next year, the Valentine is hosting a big tea party, followed by a performance based on the book series. Sophie will be nearly three then so I think she might enjoy that... perhaps with some friends!
