The Christmas season is upon us!
And the festivities are in full swing once more.
The kids love the little rituals we've put in place the past few years as well as all the partying and surprises that are such a frequent occurence this time of year. So we have begun our preparations and count down towards the birth of Christ and the excitement continues to build. There is nothing like celebrating Christmas with little ones. Their anticipation is contagious and we just try to keep the meaning of our celebrating true.
On the Saturday after Thanksgiving, my Christmas tree wingman and I tackled the project of putting up our new tree. So much fuller and more substantial than our old one! I couldn't believe it. I immediately text my sister that this looked like the Cadillac of Christmas trees compared to what I was used to. :) Will was a huge help.
I picked up lights the next day and strung them on on Sunday night, followed by ornaments quite awhile later. I wanted to get all new stuff and not make any rushed decisions. :)
One week after Thanksgiving, we made our annual pilgrimage to the Toledo Zoo for The Lights Before Christmas. We prefer the quieter experience of a week night compared to a weekend and I had a Groupon for The Spaghetti Warehouse that we decided to use before our trip. The kids had a blast sitting in the old train car inside the restaurant and they ate salads and spaghetti for dinner.
Peeking out the train car windows.
We got a great parking spot at the zoo and the crowds were pretty minimal, despite the favorable weather. It was definitely a coat and hat and mittens kind of night, but not bitterly cold.
In a few of the pictures, particularly when I was in motion while shooting, the lights kinda wigged out and looked like rain. Haha!
So Craig tried to create that on purpose by moving the camera side to side while snapping. :)
Lovely. Right?
On Saturday morning, December 1st, the kids broke out their colored pencils and plenty of blank paper and got to work writing letters to Santa.
You can see in these pictures that Sophie is still pretty ambidextrous for now. She flip flops her writing/drawing hand frequently. But I think her left seems to be used slightly more often. Could it be? TWO lefty children?
Today was our Wasserman family reunion, held every year on the first Sunday in December. The location was moved to my Aunt Shirley's church in Elliston this year and it worked out really nicely there. As always, the dinner line wrapped nearly all the way around the room when the meal was served. One neat thing about this year was having a member of each sub-family (there were 12 Wasserman children in all... my grandma being the youngest) introduce each member of their family. This function has gotten so big that most everyone in my generation knows only their sub-family plus a small number of others.
Keeping his priorities straight... Will started with the dessert table and waited patiently until his plate was filled to taste any of them. ;)
Sophie, on the other hand, had her two cookies totally gone by the time we reached the food tables. ;)
Santa came to see the children and pass out candy canes and oranges! As usual, Sophie was scared and wouldn't go near him without me.
After several serious pictures, Santa told us to take a silly one with our tongues out.
Hahahaha!! An attempted great grandkids pic with Grandma and Grandpa Konesky. Nailed it! Don't you agree? LOL
Finally, it was time for ornaments on the tree. I went with a red, turqouise and silver color scheme and I love the outcome! I did all the basic ornaments on my own and then let the kids add their special ones.
I held onto a few old favorites that coordinated nicely with the new...
As soon as we started talking about putting up the tree, Sophie begged to put the star on top. So she got to do the honors of making our tree complete!
Seasons Greetings!
