The weekend of Sophie's party felt like one of the busiest of the year thus far. After a very busy Saturday, I got up early on Sunday morning to carpool with a friend out to Sylvania for the Glass City Marathon. I ran with a relay team that morning and had to be at our exchange points pretty early. I can't remember, but I think the race started at 7 or 7:30? So I sat in the Tam-o-shanter parking lot for about two hours (where my exchange point was) waiting for my turn to run. My leg of the relay was 4.95 miles - no biggie - but I hadn't run much at all the previous two weeks so I wasn't sure how I'd feel. Surprisingly I felt pretty strong and the whole thing felt pretty quick once I'd begun.
After the race, we headed home and I showered and got ready for our niece's baptism, which was later that day. The kids were very good in church (it was a private ceremony, not a service) and the ceremony was brief.
Craig was asked to be Godfather again. It's always nice to see him all dressed up, now that it's become a rarity. ;)
In anticipation of feeling exhausted by the end of Sunday ('cause I absolutely WAS!!!), my boss encouraged me to take Monday off to recoup. Thank goodness. I would have been useless at work on Monday. The kids really needed it too. Will didn't go to school 'cause he wasn't feeling great and we even skipped karate that night. Instead, we vegged and relaxed. I got some cleaning and cooking done and napped with the kids and we all felt much better at days end.
Will and Soph piled onto the couch to watch Tangled...
...and we played with some birthday toys too.
So that wrapped up that crazy weekend!
What else is new?
Hmm.
Well, we tried a new form of discipline for sibling battles that following week. When they fought and argued and whined with each other, I made them hug until I told them to stop. Pretty soon, they were smiling at the humor of this "discipline".
This kid got a haircut in the basement with his daddy.
And this girl practiced her balancing skills while twirling her rainbow ribbon wand to keep herself busy and out of the way of the haircutting process. :)
Love this toy.
My little, brown-eyed babes generally always love bath time.
Especially, when it's followed by daddy's special "rocket ship game". He jelly rolls them into a towel and flies them all over the house making rocket noises. Big time fun.
Our friends came over to watch a movie one evening and Will challenged Mike to a game of Winomino. :)
Meanwhile, Sophie and Jill had tea with cupcakes.
We played a riveting game of Qwirkle one Sunday evening after dinner.
And then I challenged Craig to Winomino and lost. I had some unstoppable beginner's luck when we first played and now he's beating me more often. I posed a sad face when Will asked to take a picture.
We painted some more using our easle and paint cups.
And enjoyed a bubble bath (a rarity lately) given by daddy. (Will had recently gotten his head caught in the line of fire during some door slamming with cousins at Nana & Papa's house. I swear, that boy is doomed for forehead scars. They were all having fun and had been warned to stop slamming doors, but this happened on accident when he was peeking out of a closet just before the door got slammed again. Good grief. No stitches and it's healing just fine, thankfully.)
And finally, this cute little pooch is getting much more exercise and attention in the past couple weeks. I always go in spurts with my desire to run regularly and right now I'm not in the mood. So Brutus and I have been walking most evenings after dinner. I'm determined to get him back in shape and re-build his endurance. He used to run with me from time to time pre-kids! And he could really keep up! Now he's a tad overweight most often rides in the wagon or bike trailer beside Sophie instead of getting to walk. That's gonna' change. I'm enjoying our quiet walks to clear my mind and get some exercise - no iPods involved - and he's very easily fallen into stride with my commands during walks just like he used to. It reminds me of all the walking we did during my pregnancies, especially the first.
