Spoiled. And Whiney.

I'm referring to ME right now, not the kids.
*wink*
You can tell how spoiled we've been this year and last with the blessing of good health... because we're coming up on a week here of sick kiddies and I can't stand it! I feel so terrible for them and wish I could just make them better.
Beginning last Thursday night, Sophie started to get a cough and runny nose combo. By Friday, both kids had this along with fevers. Their appetites seemed to plummet but I thought they were consuming at least enough to get by, plus lots of fluids. They were sucking down water all weekend from their water bottles that I let them carry around. (They don't usually have free access to cups.) Sophie was waking multiple times at night between her bedtime and about 2 a.m. before finally settling for the rest of the night. Will just seemed to wake sporadically: midnight, 2, 4, 6... It took him forever to get settled because he just couldn't stop coughing. I felt sooooo bad for him and I kept telling him I was sorry he didn't feel well and that he was coughing so much. Bless his heart, he always responded with something like "It's okay, mommy. I'll be okay." We were doing Motrin & Tylenol at least twice a day for both kids until about Sunday.
On Monday we went to the doctors to rule out a positive strep culture because I knew they'd been exposed. Thank goodness that was negative. But both kids were diagnosed with ear infections. Sophie had an infection in both ears (her first ever... See? I told you I'm whining) and Will had one only in his right ear. But! His ONE was worse than both of hers combined and also the worst they'd seen all day. He never complained about it and even then when we asked him if his ear hurt, he said no. Both kids were given Amoxicillin and the nurse practitioner thought that would likely clear up all ailments.
I haven't really seen any improvements in Will and only minor in Sophie, considering both were about done with fevers before starting the antibiotic. Both still have runny noses and a mild cough (mostly at bedtime and in a.m.) and Sophie is eating a little better. But Will is barely eating at all. He's only had two or three bowel movements in the past week (he normally goes every night like clock work) and this morning he couldn't even pee. I haven't been measuring his fluids all that carefully because he'd always been pretty accepting of them and I thought he was drinking okay. But food is mere morsels and he's thrown up about four or five times this week. He doesn't even want to sit at the table and he's refusing things I know he loves. I'm not sure if he's just got an upset stomach from the drainage or if he's been scared off of eating a bit from the vomiting. But the no-peeing thing this morning is really frightening.
Craig's going to pick up some Gatorade to hopefully replenish his fluid losses a little. Will was drinking smoothies and eating soft foods or crackers for awhile, but now all he wants is milk. I'm going to call the doctor again and see what they would recommend.
Say a prayer for our little sickies.
Hopefully this will pass soon.

Poor kiddos and poor mommy :( Will's ear might really not be bothering him, but I also wouldn't be surprised (from my experience at least) if his infection is still there... of course, call the doc, but she might just want to see them again to see if the antibiotics are doing what they should or if something stronger would be better. Poor kids :( I'm sooo sorry!
