Remember the notebook I'm keeping of "Will Tidbits"? Well it's filling up fast! Some are sweet, some are funny.
Here's another sampling of "Will-isms":
1) (Sept) Brutus starts barking like crazy in the morning while I'm changing Sophie's diaper. I hear Will at the window talking to Brutus in a way we might talk to him: "That was a big, red truck, Brutus. Did you see it go by?"
2) (Sept) I'm getting Will's lunch ready and he's standing on a chair in the kitchen to watch. I've cut up some colored bell peppers on his plate and I ask him "Ooh! Do you want some baby carrots too?" Will says "Yes, and a mommy carrot and a daddy carrot too." :) LOL
3) (Sept) Randomly, and for no apparent reason, Will said "You're the best, mommy!" Craig taught him to say that and now it's an occasional sweetness.
4) (Oct) I'm feeding Sophie in her room at 6:55 a.m. Will gets up, comes in to greet us and then heads upstairs to see Craig. I left the light on over the kitchen sink and when he walked into the kitchen, I heard Will call to me: "There's my shadow, mommy! I see my shadow, mommy! I say 'ribbit, ribbit'" (because I had recently shown him shadow animals).
5) (Oct) Getting ready on a weekday morning. Will says to me "I wanna' watch the panda bear movie... pleeeeease! Please mommy, I wanna' watch the panda bear movie." (Kung Fu Panda) I tell him we can't right now because we need to get ready to go. He hangs his head and says: "I'm SO sad."
(*Side note: Some of these may not seem as funny to you if you're not around a toddler enough to know that verbally expressing emotions and feelings like that, or using longer sentences and expressions that sound very 'adult' are NOT the norm.)
6) (Oct) Scariest day of my life: Will has a febrile seizure at the sitters house and is taken via ambulance to the ER. He is okay, thank God, but we are very shaken up. Upon arrival, he is awake but groggy and pretty out-of-it; whiney. I say to him "I'm here, baby. I love you - you're going to be okay." He says to me "I wanna' do laundry mommy." (I often let him help me put the clothes into the washer or dryer and push the buttons.) He remembered that later when we arrived home and said it again, so I said "okay, buddy, let's go do a load of towels". Bless his little heart.
7) (Oct) On the way to the pediatricians office to follow up on Will. Sitting in his carseat, Will says "we're going to Dr. Carmen's house to play with her toys."
8) (Oct) Stopped at the grocery store to pick up some things for dinner next week. I tell Will about all the produce we're putting in the cart, one of which is a jalapeno pepper. Will says he wants to hold the "Halloween pepper".
9) (Oct) Will has always called these animals by their shortened nickname: a hippo and a rhino. Today Will says that NEXT year he wants to be a "hippo-nocerous" for Halloween.
10) (Oct) Sitting in his chair eating dinner with his mouth full of food, Will hears Sophie sneeze. He does one of those eyes-closed-strained-swallows so as to quickly be able to say: "God bless you, Sophia".
11) (Oct) This morning, as we were getting ready, Sophie was babbling "words" more than usual (i.e. dada, gaga - very cute). As I was loading her into her car seat she was doing it again and Will was standing beside the seat smiling at her, clearly amused. I said to Will: "It sounds like she's talking doesn't it?" And he said... (brace yourself, this may be the sweetest thing you've ever heard): "You have the cutest voice, Sophia." My heart just about exploded in my chest. Love, love, love.
12) (Oct) I'm pretty good about watching my language around the kids, but apparently I still need to be more careful of what I say. This morning, Brutus was barking obnoxiously at who knows what, and Will said "Shut UP, doggy!"
13) (Oct) I set Will's breakfast plate down in front of him and he says to me "Oh my gosh! That is a LOT of canteloupe!" (LOL) It's funny because there really wasn't that much on there but, again, he is really picking up on things/expressions we must say a lot.
14) (Oct) Craig overheard Will patting his legs and saying "Come here and get in my lap, Brutus."
15) (Oct) I cut my finger the day before and had a band-aid on it. I was helping Will wash his hands before lunch and he said to me: "Mommy, you have a boo boo on your LEFT hand." Ummmm..... yes, I DO! My kid's a freakin' genius! (He knows his right and left about 85% of the time, but knowing someone else's right and left... now that's impressive!)
15) (Oct) Craig points to Will and says "you're the man, Will!" Will says "no, daddy, I'm a woman!" LOL
16) (Oct) Driving in the car, Craig's trying to explain something to me. He starts a sentence with "If I'm correct..." Will interrupts with "Daddy, I'M correct!"
17) (Nov) This one's hilarious. Craig's struggling a little to get Will's shoe on. Will says to him "Daddy, I need a shoehorn." You may be asking yourself, 'how the heck does he know what a shoehorn is?' and the answer is: he's Craig's son. And it's the same reason that, at 2 years old, he can name his many matchbox cars that Craig picks up for him: Corvette, El Camino, Chevelle, Lamborghini (sp?), etc.
18) (Nov) Saying prayers before bed, I say "thank you for our safety and our health"... Will adds "and thank you for our Lord." :)
You can tell just from the previous Will-isms post how his verbal skills have improved in just a couple months even!

I have one to add....I was over at mom's one day when she was watching the kids and he and I were singing the ABCs. Then I decided to quiz him and I asked who's name starts with "W" and he of course knew it was W-I-L, Will! Then I asked whose name starts with a "T" and he says "Uncle Taylor". I also asked about "Z" and he knew Uncle Zach.....I have second graders who would probably get that wrong....He is a genius!!!!!!!!!
He's so cute! I love the "hippo-nocerous!"
I have another one....Saturday while the Riedeman fam was visiting us Craig was being a "donkey" as Ashley put it in kid terms and Will informed his Mommy that she is a "Cow". LOL
