Sophie's 1st Special Helper Day

Preface:  I've had such a frustrating time with this post.  I've typed text for it TWO times only to have it disappear mysteriously.  I even had the post published once before checking later to see that it had reverted back to a "draft" with no text.  Only pictures.  So frustrating!  Craig thinks it's because I accidentally had the post open and in the composing stage on two computers.  One with only pictures, the other with the text I was working on.  And then the one with only pictures kept auto-saving even after I'd published?  Weird.  So if you've already seen this post on my blog and then it disappeared and now it's back and the words are not identical to the last one... it's because I'm typing it all over again... for the THIRD time.  Boo.

Sophia's first special helper day arrived on her second week (third day) of school.  She and I were looking very forward to this honor.  It was yellow day at school and we dressed accordingly.

With FOUR kiddos at our sitters all attending the same preschool this year, we had a challenge on our hands trying to arrange drivers to haul the brood to and from school twice a week.  (They go Tuesday and Thursday.)  Thankfully, blessed as we are, Nana takes turns with her grandkids and the rest ride with our friend Nichole or another mom.
Carpools rock.
This morning, we picked up handsome-man Jax at the sitters in the morning and Nana came to pick up Mya and Stella.  Sophie was thrilled to have her buddy Jax sitting beside her in Will's car seat.

Our caravan.  :)
These four have been buddies since infancy when they started at Lisa's together.  They fight like siblings and love each other like crazy.  And now they're all starting school together.  Love them!

Miss Sophie colored me a name tag at school.
And the kids played for awhile before circle time.

Then Sophie was announced as the special helper and got to introduce me as her guest.  Her responsibilities as helper included counting her classmates attendance duck-duck-goose-style, putting up the calendar and reading the date, announcing the weather and dressing Mr. Bear accordingly, holding the flag for Pledge of Allegiance and assisting with a couple of activities at the front of the class.  These are mighty serious jobs and the kids take such pride in their participation!

This was hysterical!  The kids were listening to and kind of singing the Apples and Bananas (vowels) song and cracking up as if it were the funniest thing they'd ever heard.  This cutie beside Jax had an especially contagious, silly laugh.

Have I mentioned that apples are a big focus in the first unit as the school year begins?  Sophie helped Mrs. Cuthbertson count some apples onto the felt board while she read a coordinating poem.

As line leader, Sophie lead her Frog Friends group to one of the craft tables to work on a yellow collage for yellow day.
They glued little bits of various yellow objects onto paper.

This was followed by more free time as they finished their work.

Jax was my sweet shadow all day.  He wanted to sit by me, hold my hand and play with me all morning.  And I just ate it up.  If that boy gets any cuter and sweeter...  ;)
You can't see her, but Sophie was performing a puppet show for me/us.
Computer time and a seat for two.  :)

Songs that have actions to go along with them are BIG favorites.
Mrs. Skees read another apple poem that went along with the next craft they were going to create.
Potty break!
Stelly, you crack me up, girlfriend!  :)
Painting their apple trees.

Playing kitchen with a friend and SHARING!  Yay!
We did bring a snack but I didn't have a chance to take a picture of it.  They were "apple smiles" - an idea from my mom:  apple slices with peanut butter and mini marshmallows.  They went over very well.

It was a fun morning with my girl and we're looking forward to Craig's turn to come to preschool in late November.
I stayed to eat a lunch I packed for Sophie and me and then she went home with Nana while I drove to Will's school to volunteer in his classroom for the afternoon.
Here's a look at Sophie's yellow collage.  :)

Haha! I wondered because I read it on my phone and then I was planning to comment when I got home but it was gone. Love how you and Soph coordinate! Love all your pics (can you email them to me) especially the one of the girls with Jax! I need more pics of them with all of the babysitter kids because they are such a big part of their daily life and I don't have many.
