Baby Bumblebees & Big Guns Blazin'

An odd title, I know.  Just a couple random photo ops with the kids...  :)

Sophie came home from school the other day singing I'm Bringing Home a Baby Bumblebee.  Clad in Dora underpants, fairy wings and hot pink boots, she sang her little heart out complete with hand motions and sweet faces.  I loved it!

Painted nails for using the potty like a big girl.  First time ever that mommy has done them.

And on the flip side of sweet and angelic... Will seems to have entered "the gun phase".  Is that ever avoidable with boys?  He has zero toy guns, except for a couple of squirt guns outside.  But, as every mother of a boy knows, once in this phase... you're can't take away all "guns" unless you cut off their fingers.  ;)  I remember my brothers eating their pb&j sandwiches into the shape of a gun at Will's age.  Ugh.

I'm not a fan of this phase.  To my chagrin, it seems to have been greatly accelerated by the Transformer obsession.  Will is always "on the good guys' team" and fighting "the bad guys", but I still don't like it.  I tolerate it because I know it's a boy thing and only step in when he seems to be getting carried away or pushing it on his sister too much.  (She loves to play all the boy things with him too.)  But the worst part - or most annoying, really - are the sound effects.  He has become a master of sound effects and we are constantly hearing the sound of a gun being cocked and shot or of whatever Transformer he's pretending to be, transforming.  (There's a sound for that.)  He's actually really good at them, but they're annoying to listen to on all-day repeat.  I'm forever telling him "enough with the sound effects!" at bedtime and meal times.

Anyway, on this random day, I sat in the room with my camera while he watched part of the Transformer movie and mimicked all the fighting scenes, completely oblivious to my presence.  He'd pulled out the two-finger big guns for the occasion and the sound effects were in full... effect.  :)

Mini break.  It's hard work defending your family's honor against 1080 lines of high definition resolution!   :)

SO not looking forward to the gun phase. Guns were a HUGE no-no with my mom, due to her/our religion. Of course, in the quest to keep guns out of our house, she also had the benefit of not having a boy in our house :) I know my son is going to hit this phase, and I know my mom is going to blame my husband for it. (He's former Army, and needless to say, my mom never approved of that.) Sigh.
