Things that I love, Part 1

A few things I love:

1) Will's version of sign language. We've been working on just a few signs for meal times to help him communicate. So we sign "eat", "drink", "more", and "all done". He's got "all done" down and I've seen him do something that resembles "eat" occasionally. Mostly when he's hungry he'll smack his lips at you like he's tasting something. The other day I was sitting on the floor folding laundry and Will decided it was time for a snack. He crawled into my lap, stood up on my legs with a hand on each of my shoulders, put his face close to mine and smacked his lips. I love it!

2) Craig's weekend morning to sleep in. We take turns. Yes, of course, I love sleeping myself. But Will actually goes down for a nap at about 9 a.m., just a couple hours after he gets up. So if Craig's still sleeping, and Will is napping... my house is silent... temporarily.

3) Getting down on the floor to play with Will. One thing I used to worry about before becoming a parent, was that I wouldn't take the time to get down on the floor and just play with my kid. I always feel like I can't stop and relax until my work is done. So most of my down time is late at night when I feel I've sufficiently accomplished all I need to for the day. Obviously that doesn't work in "kid-world". But I'm happy to say that I've surprised myself and I'm not that way at all. Actually, Will doesn't allow it and I'm grateful for that! He interrupts every task I attempt many, many times just keeping him out of trouble. So I keep my housework to short spurts and pause frequently to play. We crawl around, play hide and seek, practice walking, read stories, sit on the porch and watch the cars go by, play pretend, etc. Yesterday I layed on the floor face down and pretended to sleep. Will crawled over and kept pushing my head up, climbing all over me. Every so often I would pop my head up and say BOO! He thought that was hilarious.

4) Will's sudden obsession with books. He's always liked them for short periods of time. But now I will find him in his room laying on his belly with 10 board books surrounding him and just turning page after page, sometimes pausing to look at the pictures. He knows which way the pages are supposed to turn and he does pretty well at turning one page at a time.

5) Will's special spot. He has a favorite position in my arms and he always wiggles and squirms his way to get there. I love it.
