What a great first day of school! The weather was awesome (for pictures), the morning went smoothly and Sophie and I got to be special helpers on the first day. Since Will started school, she has been counting down the days until it was her turn. And finally, the day has arrived!
Bummer that she will be wearing her cast for a little over a week yet, but thank goodness it's short-sleeve weather!
Sophie's school days will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday this year from 9-noon. And she will take a packed lunch on Wednesdays when she gets to spend the rest of the afternoon with Nana and stays awhile at the school for Nana to clean up. Sophie's three closest pals (Mya, Stella and Jax) will be returning to school with her and this year she will see both old and new faces in her classroom.
Will made such a nice point of wishing Sophie luck this morning and telling her to have a great day.
And, of course, Sophie got lots of hugs and kisses from mommy and daddy as well.
On Wednesdays, Will also gets on and off the bus at Nana & Papa's house. So Sophie and I saw him off before heading into her school. Doesn't he look so grown up in these pics?
Bad sunlight... pic with Nana & Sophie.
And better light but poorer smile from Soph. :(
Haha! The many faces of Sophie are endless.
Posing outside of her school building.
Love this one on the way in.
Lots of great things to play with at preschool!
And so awesome to have cousins in the classroom!
Sophie gave up coloring my name tag almost immediately. So Mya graciously finished it for her. Thanks, Mya!
Hopefully doing better with taking turns this year...
Especially with new friends.
Sophie is a Frog Friend in her small group at school.
It's beautiful! Thank you, Mya! So nice to have an artist in the family. :)
Circle time and meeting new friends.
They passed around a parrot and sang a little song for each child to have a turn to say their name and introduce themselves.
Being line leader is one of the best perks of being special helper. :)
Calendar & weather time.
Followed by discussion of how to properly hold a crayon when we color.
Time to put that new lesson to use!
And then put their finished coloring pages in their backpacks.
Sophie's snack today were fruit kabob "fairy wands" thanks to the idea from my friend Melissa.
She chose the prayer that the kids all prayed before having snack together.
Music time!
And crafting. The start of the school year is featuring a pirate treasure theme so the kids made gold coins with their names on them and decorated them in jewels.
We traced glue onto their written names and then dusted them with sand to look like buried treasure. Each child decorated their coins with mini jewels and these coins will later be hidden outside for the kids to find.
Capping off the school day with play time outside.
And finally, the school day ended and all the friends went home while Sophie stayed behind with Nana and ate her lunch.
Looking forward to an awesome second year of preschool!
